Spreading the spirit of solidarity and strength from the community

In the days after the storm and flood, from the lowland of Nong Son to the highland of Avuong, the spirit of solidarity and fellow countrymen's affection became a solid support to help people overcome difficulties.

Let's get down to business

Ms. Phan Thi Ngoc Dung, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nong Son Commune, said that the top priority of the locality is to organize relief, restore the environment, and support people to stabilize their lives. In areas with heavy damage, the Village Front Committee coordinates with the Party cell, the People's Committee and mass organizations to carry out very practical tasks: collecting garbage, cleaning mud, draining water, repairing small works; at the same time, integrating propaganda on skills to prevent natural disasters and respond to climate change.

In Loc Trung village, as soon as the water receded, the Front Work Committee launched a clean-up operation for the entire village. The atmosphere was urgent and bustling: people holding brooms, shoveling soil, wheelbarrows, carts, and trucks taking turns transporting mud and garbage. In just over an hour, the road to Hamlet 2, the area behind the medical station, the grounds of the cultural house, and the village gate were cleaned.

Even though her hands were still covered in mud, Ms. Truong Thuy Cam Giang, Head of the Front Work Committee of Loc Trung village, still smiled and said in a sincere voice: "As soon as the flood receded, people immediately got to work. Everyone did whatever they could, as long as our village was clean again. When the electric poles were broken, we put them up again. I was very happy to see the village bright again." These seemingly small things contributed to the atmosphere of solidarity and cohesion so that the village could recover quickly after the natural disaster.

Not only in residential areas, the spirit of sharing also spreads in the heartwarming meals at Nong Son Regional Medical Center. The program "Free meals - spreading love" is maintained by many individuals, organizations and volunteer groups, to support patients, their families and households in low-lying areas to take shelter from floods.

According to Ms. Thai Thi My Han, Deputy Head of Planning - Professional - Nursing Department, Head of Social Work Team (Nong Son Regional Medical Center), in just over a month (from October to mid-November 2025), the Center has received support from 31 volunteer groups, with a total of 180 cash gifts, more than 2,530 rice and porridge meals, worth 69.5 million VND. This resource has promptly taken care of nearly 750 inpatients and many households taking shelter from the flood. In addition, the center also mobilized donors to support 4 patients with special difficulties, of which 3 people received 1 million VND, 1 person received 3 million VND to have more conditions for treatment.

Choking with emotion, Mr. Nguyen Nam (75 years old, Que Phuoc commune), who is undergoing long-term treatment for many underlying diseases such as pneumonia, heart failure, etc., expressed: “My house is far away and the road is flooded, I was worried that no one would come to take care of me. Thanks to the groups giving me rice and water, I feel very warm. A sick old man like me is cared for like that, I am very grateful.” Those simple, rustic words clearly reflect the warmth that human love brings in the midst of severe natural disasters.

Community power

Not only Loc Trung, the spirit of solidarity also shines in Loc Dong village. Mr. Doan Ngoc Thuy, Party cell secretary and head of the village Front Work Committee, said: "As soon as the Commune Front launched the campaign, the villagers responded immediately. The whole village has more than 250 people working. Whoever has free time helps, no one hesitates."

At the road in Hamlet 2, where a section of concrete was broken due to strong water flow, people did not wait for support but voluntarily contributed nearly 10 million VND to buy sand, stone, and cement to patch the road.

Simple but meaningful tasks such as cooking for the homeless, helping clean up after floods, visiting families who suffered losses, etc. have created a great influence. The spirit of "unity through action" not only appears in difficult times but has become a habit of the community. After natural disasters and calamities, people rely on each other to stand up with each meal, each hoe, each garbage bag collected, each road patched. It is these simple, humane gestures that have become a strong resource to help the locality recover after natural disasters, while continuing to foster the tradition of solidarity.

In Avuong commune, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, the road leading to Aur village was seriously eroded. Thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil fell down, burying nearly 2km of road, completely cutting off people's travel and transportation of necessities. For many days, the people, along with the militia, youth union members, and commune police, leveled rocks and soil, cleared fallen trees, and cleared the flow. Families with hoes contributed hoes, shovels contributed shovels; those with tractors brought their vehicles, those with chainsaws brought their chainsaws. All shared the same wish: not to let Aur village be isolated for another day.

Mr. Aral Ton, Head of Arec village, shared simply but honestly: “Heavy rain caused serious landslides on the road to Aur village, making it very difficult for people to travel or carry things. When the Commune Front launched the campaign, our people were unanimous, everyone contributed whatever they could, as long as we could soon have a road so that people could travel and avoid suffering.”

Aur village is located deep in the protective forest, nearly 20 km from the commune center, with 24 households and 102 people. This is the only village in the commune that does not have a complete road, no electricity grid, unstable phone signal, people live mainly by self-sufficiency.

Thanks to the solidarity of the whole commune, the road to the village has been initially cleared and can be traveled by road. The commune government is continuing to mobilize support for machinery and funding to reinforce the slope and level the roadbed to ensure long-term safety for the people. Thanks to the efforts of the people of Arec, Ga'lau and Aur, thanks to the solidarity of the people, the road to Aur village has been basically cleared and can be traveled.

Through specific and practical actions, the cooperation of the government and people not only helps the locality quickly overcome the consequences of natural disasters but also continues to foster the tradition of solidarity and mutual love of the community.
