Implementing the direction of the Departmentof Education and Training (GD&DT), since the beginning of April 2025, more than 400 high schools across the province have simultaneously launched a series of activities in response to Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21), with the participation of over 150,000 students and 13,000 school officials and teachers.
At Chu Van An High School for the Gifted ( Lang Son City), the Book Festival was organized as an open “Knowledge Day”. The exhibition booths on the topics of mathematics, classical literature, and history attracted many students to come and learn. Hoang Minh Tue, a student in class 11A1 specializing in mathematics, shared: “Participating in the festival, we not only read but also design our own book introduction content, expressing our own feelings. Thanks to that, the books become much closer and more attractive.”
At primary and secondary schools, activities are designed to suit the age group, creating excitement and connection. For example, at Hoang Dong Secondary School (Lang Son City), the program "Books - Joy and Knowledge" lasted throughout April 2025 with activities such as storytelling based on books, interacting with writers, donating books... attracting more than 700 students; Diem He Primary and Secondary School (Van Quan District) organized a district-wide Book Festival, attracting more than 600 students from neighboring communes.
The year 2025 also witnessed a clear shift in the application of technology to develop a reading culture. Many schools such as Huu Lung High School (Huu Lung District), Mai Pha Middle School, Vinh Trai Primary School (Lang Son City)... maintained the "5 minutes of good books every day" section on fanpages and classroom zalo groups. Through this, students and teachers introduce books, share favorite excerpts, and inspire reading. These flexible methods not only increase interaction but also motivate students to actively read books in a digital environment.
It is worth noting that many schools do not stop at mass activities, but gradually build a sustainable reading culture. The models of “Classroom bookcase”, “Creative reading corner”, “Introducing books at the beginning of the week” are maintained regularly. In some schools, students take on the role of “reading culture ambassadors” – guides and encourages classmates to form reading habits and spread the spirit of loving books.
Do Phuong Mai, a student of class 12A6, Hoang Van Thu High School, shared: Every night I spend at least 30 minutes reading books. That is the time when I relax, learn many things and feel more mature. Thanks to books, I not only study literature well but also become more confident in communication.
According to incomplete statistics from schools, from the beginning of April 2025 to now, the whole province has donated more than 5,000 books to the library; over 1,000 students participated in storytelling, writing, and book introduction competitions. Collective reading activities, reading books by topic, introducing books via videos ... not only enrich teaching methods but also contribute to innovating the form of education on life values and life skills in schools.
Discussing the future direction, Ms. Phan My Hanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training emphasized: “The education sector will continue to direct schools to increase investment in libraries, encourage creative reading models, and make reading activities a regular part of formal education and experience. In particular, it is necessary to strongly apply technology to bring books closer to students in the modern context.”
It can be said that the 2025 Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day has brought a vibrant and meaningful knowledge space to schools in the province. From small reading corners in the highland schoolyard to school libraries in the middle of the city, books have truly become companions of students. Each opened page of a book is an opportunity to explore the world, each hour of reading is a step forward in the journey to maturity. The seeds of knowledge sown today with a love of books will certainly bear fruit, contributing to nurturing a generation of learning citizens who know how to live humanely, independently and creatively.
