On August 23, in Ho Chi Minh City, the delegation led by Mr. Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, veterans representing 70 families of policy beneficiaries, and outstanding meritorious people of Ho Chi Minh City. This is an activity within the framework of the program "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City" to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).
Milestone in building and developing the Capital
Speaking at the program, Party Central Committee member, Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that on October 10, 2024, in Hanoi, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government and Hanoi will solemnly organize the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024). This is an important event marking the 70-year historical milestone of the construction and development of the heroic and cultural capital Hanoi.
Since King Ly Thai To issued the “Edict on the Transfer of the Capital” in 1010, Thang Long - Hanoi has gone through glorious historical stages. In that process, October 10, 1954 marked the glorious victory of the Vietnamese people in the long-term resistance war against the French colonialists, opening a new period of development for the Capital and the country.

70 years ago, at exactly 4:00 p.m. on October 9, 1954, our army and people took complete control of the Capital. The pride and glory of liberating the Capital belongs to the heroic Vietnamese people, in which the Party Committee, army and people of the Capital were steadfast in the struggle, fought bravely and won gloriously, with the song of triumph on the day of the Capital's Liberation, full of faith and hope for the bright future of the Capital and the country.
According to the plan, the program "Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City" with many activities aims to propagate the great significance of the Capital Liberation Day; the achievements of 70 years of construction and development of the Capital; continue to promote and introduce the cultural characteristics, unique and typical cultural heritage of the thousand-year-old capital Hanoi; the elegant and civilized people of the Capital, Hanoi - City for peace, creative city; at the same time, strengthen the cooperative relationship between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in promoting and exploiting the potential and advantages of the two localities. Especially the activity of visiting and giving gifts to families of policy beneficiaries, exemplary meritorious people currently living in Ho Chi Minh City, including many revolutionary veterans, and soldiers who were soldiers directly participating in the fight to liberate the capital Hanoi.
Promoting the tradition of "remembering the source of water"
Mr. Tran Sy Thanh affirmed that the Hanoi City Party Committee always determines that implementing well policies for people with meritorious services is the responsibility and regular work of the Party Committee, government and people of the Capital.
“On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, in the program “Hanoi Days in Ho Chi Minh City”, the Hanoi Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee were honored to meet and pay tribute to 70 families of policy beneficiaries and outstanding contributors of Ho Chi Minh City, expressing the affection, heart, and gratitude of the Party Committee, government, and people of the Capital towards outstanding contributors of Ho Chi Minh City. Notably, among the 70 outstanding contributors met today, there are 9 individuals who directly participated in the fight to liberate the Capital, and many other outstanding contributors, who are worthy of respect and gratitude,” said Mr. Tran Sy Thanh.

Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le highly appreciated the significance of the program. Accordingly, Hanoi organized a meeting, visit and gift-giving program for 70 families of policy beneficiaries who are typical contributors and those who participated in the liberation of the capital living in Ho Chi Minh City, demonstrating the noble gesture and the morality of "remembering the source of water when drinking water" of the Party Committee, the government and the people of Hanoi towards those who have contributed to the revolution.
Also at the program, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Nguyen Thi Le, on behalf of the Party Committee, government, people with meritorious services to the revolution and the people of Ho Chi Minh City, would like to express her sincere thanks for the precious sentiments of the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi towards people with meritorious services to the revolution in Ho Chi Minh City.
It is known that Ho Chi Minh City is managing 278,892 records, with 35,275 people receiving monthly benefits with a budget of VND 74,775,644,853. In recent years, many Party guidelines and policies, State policies and laws on incentives for people with revolutionary contributions have been issued and implemented synchronously, comprehensively and diversely. The beneficiaries of preferential policies have been expanded, preferential policies have been gradually supplemented and improved, contributing to improving the living standards of people with revolutionary contributions and their relatives.
