After inspecting the summer-autumn crop production area in Phuoc Thai commune; Bau Zon reservoir (Ninh Phuoc); Tan Giang reservoir and visiting a fruit tree cultivation model of a household in Nhi Ha commune (Thuan Nam), the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee listened to reports from the leaders of the two localities on the drought response situation in their areas. Accordingly, the People's Committees of the districts have proactively issued plans and directed relevant departments, communes, and towns to strengthen propaganda to raise awareness among organizations, units, and people to proactively respond to drought; regularly inspect and strictly manage water resources in irrigation systems, ponds, and lakes to implement plans to provide sufficient water for people's daily lives and for production activities. In Ninh Phuoc district, if there is no rain in the province from now until the end of May, the entire district plans to plant 7,715.7 hectares of various crops in the summer-autumn season and temporarily suspend production on 2,159 hectares of land benefiting from the Nam Canal and Cham Canal irrigation systems. For Thuan Nam district, production will be suspended on 2,284 hectares of summer-autumn crops; at the same time, the district requests provincial support for water pumping for 50 hectares of perennial crops currently lacking water and proposes that the Provincial Center for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation develop a contingency plan for domestic water supply for residents in Nhi Ha and Phuoc Ha communes in case of prolonged drought.

During the on-site inspection, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee acknowledged and highly appreciated the proactive spirit of the localities in responding to the drought. Forecasting that the drought situation will continue to worsen, he requested Ninh Phuoc and Thuan Nam districts to closely coordinate with relevant functional agencies to focus on reviewing water usage needs; prioritizing water for domestic use, drinking water for livestock, and high - value perennial crops; organizing production in each region appropriately, promoting the conversion of dryland crops associated with water-saving irrigation systems, and resolutely preventing any production outside of the plan. He also requested the allocation of funds for dredging ponds, lakes, and canals; and the dissemination of information and mobilization of people to proactively stockpile feed and drinking water for their livestock.
