Vietnamese leaders visit Japan to offer condolences after earthquake and tsunami.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , on January 2nd, upon learning of the earthquake and tsunami that struck Ishikawa Prefecture and the surrounding areas in central Japan, causing significant loss of life and property, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a message of condolences to Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.

On the same day, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son also sent a message of condolences to Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko.

AFP, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), reported that the Noto area of ​​Ishikawa Prefecture recorded 21 consecutive tremors with a magnitude of 4 or higher within 90 minutes. The strongest of these earthquakes, measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale, occurred at 4:10 PM local time on January 1st.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan stated that there was no information regarding Vietnamese casualties in the earthquake that occurred on January 1st.

According to the latest information provided by the International Manpower Development Organization of Japan (IM Japan), all Vietnamese trainees accepted by the organization to work in Toyama, Fukui, and Ishikawa prefectures are safe. The working group continues to monitor information from the areas most severely affected by the earthquake, especially Ishikawa prefecture and the Noto Peninsula, which suffered the most damage.

The Noto Peninsula is a tourist area with two major cities, Wajima and Wakura Onsen, home to numerous hotels, guesthouses, and nursing homes. These two areas were severely damaged in the earthquake and are also the two locations where Vietnamese workers are employed under the specified skills and trainee programs.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Japan stated that it is maintaining close contact with local authorities and Vietnamese community leaders in areas severely affected by the earthquake, and is ready to provide consular assistance to Vietnamese citizens if necessary.
