What is special about the biggest Long Tong festival in Bac Kan?

Every spring, Ba Be people hold a festival to pray for a lucky new year. Ba Be Long Tong Festival is the biggest "going to the fields" festival in Bac Kan province.

Before the Long Tong festival, each commune prepares a tray of offerings including chicken, pork, boiled eggs, two pairs of banh chung, and a pair of banh chung Tay (long-wrapped banh chung similar to banh tet in the South). On each tray there is a colorful flower-shaped cake and two pairs of cones made of fabric with colorful tassels and seeds of all kinds. The tray of offerings is carefully selected, must be larger, more numerous, more beautifully decorated than the trays of offerings of the families and must have a pig's head. The trays of offerings are arranged in a straight line, the master of ceremonies (usually a Tao or Mo master), called "pu mo". "Pu mo" stands in front of the tray of offerings of the village to pray to heaven, earth, and gods for protecting the villagers.
