The anniversary celebration of Dong Ha City will be held in a compact manner, without fireworks.

Dong Ha was recognized as a type 2 urban area after 15 years of being upgraded to a city.

On the afternoon of September 26, Dong Ha City held a press conference on the process of building and developing Dong Ha into a type 2 urban area, directly under Quang Tri province.

Dong Ha City is the provincial capital, political, economic, cultural and social center of Quang Tri province, with an area of ​​over 73km2; located on National Highway 1 and National Highway 9 on the East-West Economic Corridor.

Mr. Le Quang Chien, Secretary of Dong Ha City Party Committee, said that Dong Ha was recognized as a type 3 urban area by the Ministry of Construction in December 2005. In August 2009, the Prime Minister decided to upgrade Dong Ha town to a type 3 city, directly under Quang Tri province.

In August 2024, the Prime Minister issued a Decision to recognize Dong Ha City as a type 2 urban area under Quang Tri province.

"Up to now, after 19 years of being recognized as a type 3 urban area and 15 years since the city's establishment, it is not a long time, but for Dong Ha it is a journey full of efforts," Mr. Le Quang Chien shared.

Mr. Ho Sy Trung, Chairman of Dong Ha City People's Committee, said that in the conditions of a rural area still suffering from many painful wounds left by the consequences of war, facing harsh weather and not being as favorable as many other localities.

However, with the attention and support of the Central Government and Quang Tri province and the efforts of the locality, Dong Ha city has achieved many important results in all fields.

The production value of economic sectors in 2009 reached more than 6,000 billion VND, in 2023 it reached more than 29,000 billion VND and the plan for 2024 is more than 33,000 billion VND; the average annual growth rate is 12.96%. The total social development investment capital in 2009 reached 669 billion VND, in 2023 it reached 7,412 billion VND, the plan for 2024 is 9,000 billion VND; the average annual growth rate is 20.4%.

Budget revenue in the area in 2009 reached more than 91.3 billion VND, in 2022 it reached more than 684 billion VND, in 2023 it reached more than 491.6 billion VND and the plan for 2024 is 714 billion VND. The poverty rate in 2009 was more than 5.3%, in 2023 it decreased to more than 1.4% and is expected to continue to decrease to more than 1.3% in 2024.

Completing foreign and connecting traffic routes

Mr. Ho Sy Trung emphasized that in recent times, Dong Ha City has been given priority in investing in completing many important traffic works, contributing significantly to promoting traffic, transporting goods, and developing the economy and society.

In addition to National Highway 1 being upgraded and expanded, the National Highway 1 bypass in the East of Dong Ha City is continuing to be implemented. Many central and connecting roads have been invested in, upgraded and expanded to be increasingly complete and synchronous.

Dong Ha City focuses on urban beautification, prioritizing investment and completion of technical infrastructure works such as public lighting, sidewalks, trees, and key social infrastructure works.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Ha City also said that, on the basis of the approved project to adjust the general planning of Dong Ha City until 2045, the city focuses on mobilizing and taking advantage of all resources, creating a breakthrough in investment in building synchronous technical infrastructure associated with building smart cities, continuing to perfect and improve the quality of criteria for type 2 cities.

Complete external traffic routes, traffic connecting the belt area; upgrade and synchronously renovate traffic works, sidewalks, water supply and drainage, electricity, telecommunications in the urban center, and concretize traffic routes in residential areas.

Effectively implement the project of socializing essential infrastructure of Dong Ha city in the period of 2021-2025 as well as the approved urban development program of Dong Ha city to 2030...

Dong Ha City leaders also said that, besides the achieved results, Dong Ha City still has existing limitations and difficulties, requiring great efforts to further improve the criteria of a type 2 urban area in the coming time.

Notably, according to the leader of Dong Ha City, the locality has planned to organize a relatively grand ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision to recognize Dong Ha City as a type 2 urban area and celebrate the 15th anniversary of Dong Ha City's establishment.

"This is also an opportunity to honor the efforts and struggles of generations of party committees, people, and business communities over the past years and to encourage the efforts of cadres, party members, and people in the coming time, so the city plans to organize the event outdoors and has also mobilized social resources to set off fireworks.

However, due to the impact of storms No. 3 and No. 4 that caused damage in the Northern and North Central provinces, the leaders of Dong Ha City discussed and decided to organize a small ceremony in the hall, without fireworks and save the budget to continue to support the construction of houses of gratitude, houses of great solidarity, support poor households and do necessary work for Dong Ha City at present," the leader of Dong Ha City shared.
