Held in Bac Ninh, the National Cheo Festival - 2025 brings together nearly 900 artists, actors, and musicians from 12 professional Cheo art troupes across the country.
This is a national-scale art activity, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism every three years, to summarize and evaluate the quality of creation, staging and performance of Cheo art by art units nationwide.
During the 14-day festival, art troupes brought to the public and audiences who love Cheo 21 unique and impressive plays. Each play lasted about 120 minutes, exploring the historical and cultural themes of the homeland, harmoniously combining tradition and contemporary life.
A typical example is the work “The burden of mountains and rivers” (Hanoi Cheo Theatre) which takes the audience back to a turbulent period more than a thousand years ago, exploring a new perspective on Queen Mother Duong Van Nga.

Through fascinating details, the Cheo play "Thien Menh" of Bac Ninh Cheo Theatre has aroused the Dong A spirit and national solidarity that created the strength to defeat foreign invaders.
Set in the early days of the Tran Dynasty, the play depicts the character of Grand Tutor Tran Thu Do - a founding father famous for his strategic talent, foresight, respect for talent, and willingness to sacrifice himself for a greater cause.

The Cheo Festival is also an opportunity to honor groups and individuals who have made many contributions to the work of preserving and promoting the artistic value of Cheo - a unique national theatrical form, rich in identity and vitality in the spiritual life of the Vietnamese people. With the auditorium always packed with audiences in every performance, the festival has affirmed the value and lasting vitality of this traditional theatrical form in the hustle and bustle of modern life.
