Mr. Nguyen Tan Kiet, Head of the Art Department - Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, delivered a welcome speech at the event. He assessed that the international debut of HIFF at Vietnam Night is an important step in bringing Vietnamese cinema to the world and building a cultural bridge between countries through the art of cinema.

He said: “HIFF takes place from April 6 to 13, 2024 with many attractive and diverse activities, promising a time when Ho Chi Minh City is filled with a cinematic atmosphere. The city will welcome artists, guests from around the world and many tourists.

With the efforts of the organizing committee, the enthusiastic support and participation of experts, artists, film producers, distributors, etc., we hope that the 1st Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival - 2024 will be successful and become a special film event in 2024 in Vietnam and Southeast Asia."

HIFF 2024 is one of the activities in Ho Chi Minh City's strategy to develop the film industry.

Also at the event, the HIFF Organizing Committee announced the position of Honorary President to Mr. Kim Dong-ho, founder and former President of Busan International Film Festival. This is an important step in promoting cooperation and connection between international film festivals and bringing Vietnamese cinema to the world.

Mr. Kim Dong-ho expressed his support for HIFF and the Vietnamese film industry. He said: "Vietnam is developing rapidly both economically and culturally. I believe this is the right time to hold an international film festival in Ho Chi Minh City."

The Vietnam Night event has connected, promoted cooperation and solidarity in the film industry. HIFF’s first participation in this event is considered to mark the development in promoting the Vietnamese film industry and opening up opportunities for global cooperation.

The Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF) is being held for the first time, expected to attract the participation of many filmmakers, directors, actors, critics and film lovers from within and outside the country. HIFF aims to connect filmmakers, industry experts and film lovers from all over the world.
