Revealing the champion of WSDC Vietnam Debate Competition 2023

After 7 days of competition, the champion of the WSDC Vietnam 2023 has been officially revealed: The US team won the championship, while the Vietnamese team's ranking was a big surprise.

With 65 teams representing 65 countries competing, and progressing through 8 group stages, pre-quarterfinals, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finally the finals... the world's largest debate competition, WSDC 2023, held in Vietnam, has officially concluded with a successful and memorable season.

This year's tournament takes place from July 20th to 27th. Participating teams compete in exciting rounds with diverse themes across eight group stages. The best-performing teams advance to the knockout rounds, which include: Pre-quarterfinals, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Finals.

After a 7-day journey with fierce matches between evenly matched contestants, the closing ceremony and the final match of WSDC Vietnam 2023 took place live at VinUni University Hall on July 27. Finally, the Vietnam WSDC 2023 Champion also called the name of the US team with a convincing result. Along with that, the best debaters of the tournament were also named and honored under the thunderous applause of everyone.

In particular, although debate in Vietnam is still young, this year the host team had an excellent performance when entering the Top 16 best teams of the tournament. The whole team, with 5 official members: Do Thu Mai, Luu Chi Anh, Phan The Viet, Hua Bao Chau, Nguyen Dieu Anh and 1 reserve member Pham Tran Bao Chau, has undergone 10 months of continuous training with a lot of knowledge and all skills to be able to confidently enter the competition with the highest fighting spirit.

This result not only reflects pride in the team, but also proves the potential and talent of young debate enthusiasts who are making steady progress on their journey to conquer new heights.

"Debate is not just a 1-hour match where each person speaks for 8 minutes, but it also has many meanings. It is a journey of each person's story. And I feel extremely happy and proud to be a member of the Vietnam national debate team, representing the country to compete with international teams. Especially, this time it is held in Vietnam, so my friends and I are even more determined to achieve the highest results," a member of the Vietnam debate team shared.

After intense matches, the world's largest debate competition, held for the first time in Vietnam, officially concluded, marking a significant milestone for the Vietnamese and global debating communities.

Head of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Loke Wing Fatt shared at the Closing Ceremony: "Thank you all young Vietnamese people for bringing great energy, especially to "old people" like me, because the heart of the competition is the heartbeat of all of you. I want you to enjoy your time in Hanoi, explore Vietnam, invite you to come to Vietnam, with Vu Anh Tuan and all his teammates, to help Vietnam continue to move forward and become a shining star on the Asian debate map".

WSDC Vietnam 2023 is not just a competition, but also a forum for exchanging knowledge and connecting debate enthusiasts from around the world. It also serves as a great impetus for future large-scale tournaments.
