A series of surprises in the nomination list for the Vietnam Golden Ball 2024

On the morning of November 5, the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Award officially kicked off with a press conference to introduce and announce the voting format, with the participation of more than 100 football experts, sports journalists and units participating in the event.

In the Golden Ball category for men, striker Nguyen Cong Phuong was removed from the list. He has only left a mark in matches with Binh Phuoc . Previously, the striker born in 1995 was eliminated from the Vietnamese team and mainly sat on the bench when playing football in Japan. Meanwhile, a series of former teammates of Cong Phuong at HAGL such as Tuan Anh, Van Thanh, Hong Duy, Van Toan are all on the list.

Cong Phuong is not on the list of nominees for the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball.

The organizers created a surprise when many young players appeared in the nomination, ready to "compete" with seniors such as Dinh Bac, Van Khang, Vi Hao, Thai Son. Among them, Nguyen Thai Son is the most outstanding young player when he was included in the V.League's typical lineup and won the National Cup with Dong A Thanh Hoa Club.

However, the race to the Golden Ball is still the story of top stars such as Dang Van Lam, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Pham Tuan Hai or Nguyen Quang Hai. In general, the votes will be cast based on the performance of Vietnamese players at the AFF Cup 2024. In the previous period, no one was too outstanding in the V.League and the national team.

In addition, Hoang Vu Samson was also nominated for the list of candidates. He is 36 years old but still "carrying" Quang Nam Club, helping the Central team stay in the league.

In the Women's Golden Ball category, Huynh Nhu, Thuy Trang and Pham Hai Yen are candidates with many opportunities. Huynh Nhu and Thuy Trang continue to play outstandingly at the Asian Women's C1 Cup. Thuy Trang even ventured into futsal and proved her ability.

The final results will be announced at the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Awards Gala, taking place in February 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City.
