A series of surprises in the list of nominees for the 2024 Vietnamese Golden Ball award.

On the morning of November 5th, the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball Award officially kicked off with a press conference introducing and announcing the voting format, attended by over 100 football experts, sports journalists, and participating organizations.

In the men's Golden Ball category, striker Nguyen Cong Phuong was excluded from the list. He has only partially made an impression in matches with Binh Phuoc . Previously, the striker born in 1995 was dropped from the Vietnamese national team and mainly sat on the bench while playing in Japan. Meanwhile, a number of Cong Phuong's former teammates at HAGL such as Tuan Anh, Van Thanh, Hong Duy, and Van Toan were all included.

Cong Phuong was not included in the list of nominees for the 2024 Vietnamese Golden Ball award.

The organizers created a surprise by having many young players nominated, ready to "compete" with their seniors such as Dinh Bac, Van Khang, Vi Hao, and Thai Son. Among them, Nguyen Thai Son is the most outstanding young player, having been included in the V.League Team of the Year and winning the National Cup with Dong A Thanh Hoa Club.

Nevertheless, the race for the Golden Ball remains a battle between top stars like Dang Van Lam, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Pham Tuan Hai, and Nguyen Quang Hai. Generally, the votes will be based on the performance of the Vietnamese national team players at the 2024 AFF Cup. Prior to that, no one has been particularly outstanding in the V.League or the national team.

In addition, Hoang Vu Samson was also nominated on the list of candidates. Despite being 36 years old, he still "carried the burden" of Quang Nam FC, helping the team from Central Vietnam avoid relegation.

In the Women's Golden Ball category, Huynh Nhu, Thuy Trang, and Pham Hai Yen are strong contenders. Huynh Nhu and Thuy Trang continued to excel at the AFC Women's Champions League. Furthermore, Thuy Trang even ventured into futsal and proved her capabilities.

The final results will be announced at the Vietnam Golden Ball Awards Gala 2024, taking place in February 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City.
