For the deck industry, the skill test consists of two parts: Theory and practice. Theory synthesizes maritime and river navigation knowledge; crew members' responsibilities according to their assigned positions; basic watercraft; collision avoidance rules; inland waterway signaling; cargo work.
In practice, test the handling of some situations on vehicles and basic watercraft.

For machinery and electricity: The theoretical exam focuses on the principles, structure, and features of the power and electromechanical systems on ships; procedures and rules for operating ship electrical machines; content of preservation, maintenance, and inspection of incidents in the operation of electrical machines.
In practice, check the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of common problems of machinery and electrical systems on board.

Testing and assessing vocational skills is one of the main contents of technical training, aiming to consolidate and improve theoretical level and practical capacity for technical staff to meet the requirements in management, exploitation and mastery of technical weapons and equipment.
At the same time, it contributes to training the bravery, working style, sense of responsibility, expertise and professional skills for the technical staff, ensuring that the technical equipment of the agency or unit is always synchronized from technical factors to human factors.
