Ensure large transportation needs
With its strategic position, Chan May seaport is part of the Hue City seaport system approved by the Prime Minister in the planning of Vietnam's class 1 seaport system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.
With an area of over 700 hectares, including land and water surface, Chan May seaport currently has 3 specialized and tourist wharves with a length of over 1,000m, receiving cargo ships with a capacity of up to 70,000 tons, container ships with a capacity of up to 4,000 teus and larger; international passenger ships up to 225,000 GT...
At Chan May port, in addition to the three existing terminals, Vsico Maritime Joint Stock Company ( Hanoi ) is investing in additional general-container terminals No. 4 and 5, with an area of over 26 hectares and a cost of nearly VND 1,700 billion. It is expected that in the second quarter of 2026, these two terminals will be put into operation, with an annual throughput of about 5 million tons of import and export goods. With container ships, the expected throughput of goods through the port is 80,000 - 100,000 TEUs/year.
The terminals are currently equipped with specialized, modern crane systems with a loading and unloading capacity of more than 100 containers/hour. In addition, the warehouse system has been and is being built by investors such as Phu Thai Global Joint Stock Company, Vietnam Steel Structure and Lifting Equipment Joint Stock Company... according to international standards with a capacity of hundreds of thousands of tons, meeting the conditions for storing, preserving and controlling cargo information.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chuong, Deputy Director of Chan May Port Joint Stock Company, shared that currently, the unit continues to invest synchronously in infrastructure, focusing on improving service quality, increasing loading and unloading productivity, shortening cargo handling time, and providing optimal transportation solutions for customers. In 2024, Chan May port will welcome 800 cargo ships, container ships and large-branded cruise ships, such as Celebrity Solstice, Quen Mary 2, etc. Total cargo through the port will reach 7.5 million tons/year; at the same time, welcoming 80,145 tourists and crew members. In the first 5 months of 2025, Chan May port (berths 1 and 2) welcomed more than 350 cargo - container and cruise ships. Total cargo through the port will reach 5.6 million tons of cargo and more than 76,000 tourists and crew members, reaching nearly 50% of the plan.
During his visit and attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of multi-purpose container terminals No. 4 and 5 at Vsico Chan May port in April 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Chan May port has a very important role and position. This is a national deep-water multi-purpose seaport, a regional hub; and at the same time, it is the end point of the East-West economic corridor, with full potential, conditions and many advantages not only for socio-economic development in the locality but also in the whole country. The Prime Minister paid attention to the progress of construction of ports, breakwater systems, as well as investment plans for construction of infrastructure, transportation, and related services, especially the Chan May Logistics Center to reduce the cost of inter-regional goods in the Central Highlands and the East-West economic corridor of Laos - Thailand.
Connecting and promoting inter-regional trade
Marine economy is one of the key directions of Hue city, in which the seaport system, with Chan May port as the center, becomes the marine economic center of the Central region and Vietnam.
Currently, in addition to National Highway 1A, Cam Lo - Tuy Loan Expressway and many major roads in Hue City have been upgraded and expanded inter-regional connections, creating favorable conditions for exploiting goods sources, especially container goods from the North and South, the Central Highlands and the Central-Lower Laos, northeastern Thailand, etc. Therefore, when completing the port infrastructure according to the plan, in the next few years, Chan May area will become a multi-purpose logistics center, specializing in containers in the Central region; at the same time, organizing the operation of domestic and international shipping routes to/from Chan May, providing many optimal service options for businesses.
On March 26, at CM-LC Economic Zone, LEC Group Corporation started construction of Chan May Logistics Center, covering an area of over 33 hectares, with a warehouse system, cargo coordination center, customs services and multimodal transportation..., costing over VND 1,500 billion. Construction time is about 24 months. Speaking at this occasion, Mr. Tran Duc Tuan, Chairman of LEC Group, said that when Chan May Logistics Center comes into operation, it will become an important link in the supply chain of goods not only domestically but also connecting with the international market, contributing to maximizing the potential and favorable geographical location of Chan May port; at the same time, creating a strong driving force for the sustainable development of CM-LC Economic Zone and the key economic region of the Central region.
According to the leader of the Management Board of Economic and Industrial Zones of Hue City, the development of Chan May Port has contributed to optimizing the efficiency of logistics activities, opening the door to attracting investment in industrial parks and industrial clusters in the locality in particular and the Central region in general.
