This year, the theme of World Tuberculosis Day remains the same: “YES! WE CAN END TB”, continuing to emphasize the need to mobilize overall strength, attract attention, focus all resources, and join hands of the community to promote the fight against tuberculosis.

Vietnam is still a country with a high burden of tuberculosis, ranking 11th among 30 countries with the highest number of tuberculosis patients globally; and also ranking 11th among 30 countries with the highest burden of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis in the world.

World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated on March 24 every year to raise public awareness of the serious impact of tuberculosis on human health, the economy and society; and to promote efforts to end tuberculosis globally.

Quang Binh is a province with an average high tuberculosis epidemic compared to the whole country. In 2023, the whole province detected and admitted 940 tuberculosis patients of all types, an increase of 16.48% compared to 2022 and an increase of 47.33% compared to 2021.

The number of detected tuberculosis patients is about 105 cases/100,000 people, while the epidemic according to WHO is about 173 cases/100,000 people, so we have only detected about 60% of the current tuberculosis patients in the community.

Therefore, to complete the goals for the 2021-2025 period, the province continues to promote proactive detection in the community, active detection at medical facilities, strengthen the role of the grassroots health system; commitment of leaders at all levels to TB prevention and control activities; focus on high-risk groups to maximize detection of TB patients in the community, bring them into early treatment, to cut off the source of infection, and rapidly reduce the TB epidemic.

Complete the procedures for national centralized TB drug bidding 2024-2025; bring the management and treatment of TB patients with health insurance cards to the commune and ward levels according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health.

At the rally, the representative of the provincial Center for Disease Control called on everyone to enthusiastically respond to World Tuberculosis Day on March 24 and send text messages to support the "Fund to Support Patients to Defeat Tuberculosis - PASTB" (text: TB to 1402).

The provincial Center for Disease Control continues to strengthen the application of the 2X strategy (X-ray, Xpert) to proactively detect tuberculosis patients in the community using mobile digital X-ray vehicles.

Each message sent will create more opportunities for TB patients to be cured, reducing the source of infection in the community. Ending TB in Vietnam means avoiding the unnecessary deaths of tens of thousands of people a year today.
