Leading us to walk on the wide, flat village road, Party cell secretary and Kim Ninh village chief Pham Quang Kiem began the story: before, the old road was 3 meters wide, and was poured with clean concrete, but according to the wishes of the people, Kim Ninh village Party cell issued a resolution to lead the topic of donating land to widen the village road by 1 meter on each side. In the resolution, it required cadres and party members living in the village to be pioneers and set an example first, then the people. Through survey and counting, there were 75 households located close to the road that needed to donate land to widen the road, of which more than 20 households had party members. In fact, without needing to mobilize or persuade, some cadres and party members set an example by removing walls and demolishing houses to hand over the land. For example, the families of comrades Nguyen Thi Gia, Trinh Xuan Chu, Pham Van Chieu... have houses on the street in the most beautiful location, considered as "golden land", although they have built gates and solid fences, they still voluntarily demolished the fences to widen the road.

Pointing to the wall that still smelled of bricks and mortar, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuc smiled and said: “We took down the fence to donate land, which my family has just rebuilt. The cost of materials alone was nearly 20 million, not to mention the construction cost. My husband and I worked hard for several months to earn enough money. However, we do it not only for our own life but also for our children and grandchildren. So, my family would not regret donating more.”

Power from consensus

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thu's house is located right next to the road, newly built, spacious, modern and completed at the end of 2023. However, when implementing the project of expanding the village's traffic route, Mr. Thu and his family happily dismantled the solidly built and painted fence, handing over more than 20 square meters of land to the village officials for construction, without any hesitation.

Through research, it is known that the people and officials of Kim Ninh village decided to expand the main roads from the beginning of the village with a total length of over 4 km. The whole village unanimously agreed that households with land on the road must remove walls, demolish houses, shops, and hand over the land to the officials to organize the construction. In addition, each person must pay 2 million VND to have funds to buy materials and rent concrete pouring machines according to standards. Although the price of land on the road in Kim Ninh main axis is about 15 to 20 million VND/m wide, many people are still willing to donate to expand the road. In addition, some philanthropists, benefactors, and construction material businesses who are villagers also participated in supporting the locality. Initially, there were many opposing opinions, some people did not agree. But with the mobilization, persuasion, and exemplary and pioneering role of the team of officials and party members, the whole village was unanimous and determined to implement. Association-level organizations such as the Veterans Association, Women's Association, the Elderly Association, and the Youth Union all participated in contributing to planting trees, installing electric lines, cleaning village roads, and creating a bright, green, clean, and beautiful landscape.

Comrade Duong Van Hoa, Secretary of the Binh Ca Commune Party Committee, shared: Currently, the movement of donating land for road construction has spread widely throughout the village roads and alleys of Binh Ca Commune in general and Kim Ninh Village in particular. The fact that people voluntarily donate land without asking for compensation has created a great impetus for the locality to develop the rural transport network.

The effectiveness of the land donation movement for road construction in Kim Ninh is a clear demonstration of the spirit of solidarity of the people joining hands to build their homeland. The spacious and beautiful roads not only help people travel conveniently but also open up opportunities for economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of the people. From the success of the land donation model for road construction in Kim Ninh village, Binh Ca commune, it is hoped that this movement will continue to spread, creating an effect on localities in the province.
