Vietnamese people spend over 90 billion VND per day through food delivery apps.

In 2023, Vietnamese people ordered food through apps like Grab and Shopee Food with a total value of up to $1.4 billion, equivalent to 35 trillion VND, or about 90 billion VND per day.

This information is included in a report on food delivery apps in Southeast Asia recently published by Momentum Works.

The value of orders placed through apps in Vietnam last year increased by 30% compared to the previous year, a remarkable increase compared to other countries in the region.

However, compared to other countries, Vietnam's gross merchandise value (GMV) of $1.4 billion is still less than Malaysia's $2.4 billion, the Philippines and Singapore's $2.5 billion, or Thailand's $3.7 billion...

Momentum Works' GMV statistics include all orders created through the app and sent to restaurants, including canceled and refunded orders.

Grab and Shopee Food are dominating the food delivery market in Vietnam. Grab leads with 47% of the market share, while Shopee Food holds 45%. The remaining 8% is held by BaeMin (which ceased operations in Vietnam at the end of 2023) and GoJek.

Grab's food delivery service is leading not only in Vietnam but also in many other Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Indonesia. Shopee Food dominates the market share in Vietnam thanks to its acquisition of Now, while in other countries it has yet to compete with Foodpanda.

Across Southeast Asia, Grab leads the food delivery market with a total GMV of $9.4 billion, far surpassing competitors such as Foodpanda ($2.7 billion), Gojek ($1.8 billion), Shopee Food ($1.5 billion), Lineman ($1.3 billion), etc.
