The workspace at the Book Distribution Center exudes the characteristic tranquility of a place where knowledge is preserved. Amidst bookshelves arranged by subject and document code, staff carefully review newly arrived batches of books, check their quality, process online orders, and guide readers in accessing the e-book library to meet the increasingly diverse needs of readers.
As a place that serves as a bridge for knowledge, bringing theoretical, political, and legal books to departments, agencies, armed forces, libraries, schools, and a large number of readers in Da Nang as well as the Central and Central Highlands provinces, the center's role becomes even more special.
This is reflected not only in the vast number of books available but also in the dedication of the team. Especially in the context of a strong shift in reading habits towards the digital environment, their work demands even greater flexibility, proactiveness, and adaptability.
In 2023, the Book Distribution Center, in collaboration with VNPT Da Nang, implemented a digital transformation project in its management and distribution operations, yielding quite noticeable results.
Mr. Nguyen Tri Thanh, an employee at the Book Distribution Center, shared that previously, the entire process from inventory checking and data entry to report generation was done manually, which was time-consuming and prone to errors.
Since digital transformation, inventory management, distribution tracking, copyright control, and data synchronization have become faster and more efficient.
At the same time, the resources are managed efficiently, helping to disseminate knowledge quickly to readers based on modern, easily accessible technological platforms.
In addition to establishing a shared database, the integration of the e-book repository with libraries and schools, and the expansion of service to neighboring localities, are also being implemented simultaneously.
The new system significantly shortens the time spent on cataloging books, reconciling inventory, and checking stock levels. Staff can focus more on advising on content and assisting agencies and units in ordering materials according to their specific needs.
According to Mr. Trinh Truong Son, Director of the National Political Publishing House's Da Nang branch and Director of the Book Distribution Center, with a very large volume of documents and many specialized books of lasting value, the implementation of digital solutions is essential and in line with current trends.
This helps the unit create a new approach in serving readers; while building a modern service environment that still maintains the inherent friendliness of a public publishing unit.
“When data is managed according to digital standards, research and training units can search more quickly and accurately. Readers can order books remotely, track delivery progress, access the electronic document library, or contact consultants directly on the digital platform, saving time and travel costs; and can rest assured of receiving materials on time and according to their requirements,” said Mr. Trinh Truong Son.
Besides investing in technological solutions, improving service quality is also a key factor in ensuring smooth operation at the Book Distribution Center.
From small tasks like wrapping books, checking for printing errors, and affixing barcodes, to larger assignments such as building bookshelves at offices or coordinating book fairs, everything is done meticulously and with a spirit of respect for readers.
Over the years, the center has regularly organized book launches, professional exchanges, and supported units in building legal libraries and lifelong learning libraries.
Mr. Trinh Truong Son affirmed that digital transformation in publishing activities is a suitable step in the context of the publishing industry undergoing a strong transformation to adapt to the trend of using digital content.
However, the human element always plays a crucial role. The image of staff members quietly working in the library, carefully handling each document and patiently answering readers' questions, proves this.
"Technology can deliver knowledge faster and further, but it is human dedication that ensures knowledge is received with trust and respect," shared Mr. Trinh Truong Son.
