Tan Hung District Medical Center (Long An) successfully performed surgery to remove a 2.5cm fish bone from a patient's appendix.
Through CT scan, doctors discovered a fish bone in the appendix so they were able to safely remove the foreign object.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Del - Director of Tan Hung District Medical Center (Long An), there are many causes of appendicitis, but cases of being stabbed by a fish bone are extremely rare.
Usually, when a fish bone is swallowed, it will get stuck in the upper digestive tract (throat, esophagus...), and when it goes down to the stomach, it will enter the lower digestive system. Here, there is a possibility of perforating the stomach. The case of patient Chinh is extremely rare.
