“The missile did not impact any ships and no injuries or damage were reported,” CENTCOM added in a statement early Thursday.

"US Central Command then engaged and successfully destroyed four unmanned aerial systems (UAVs) and a surface-to-air missile in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen," the ministry added.

Houthi rebels have repeatedly launched drones and missiles against international commercial shipping in the Gulf of Aden since mid-November.

Their Red Sea attacks have disrupted global shipping, forcing companies to reroute longer and more expensive journeys around southern Africa, and raising concerns that the Israel-Hamas war could spill over and destabilize the wider Middle East.

The US and UK have carried out several strikes against Houthi targets in response.
