(PLVN) - The central steel roof structure of Long Thanh airport's passenger terminal, weighing more than 5,300 tons, has been successfully lifted to the top of the roof, marking an important turning point of the project.

On the morning of April 4, according to reporters, at the construction site of package 5.10 (Long Thanh airport passenger terminal), the joint venture contractor completed the lifting of the steel structure of the central roof of the terminal, one of the complex and decisive items in the entire project.

Mr. Duong Quang Dien, Permanent Deputy Director of Long Thanh Project Management Board, said that the process of raising the central steel roof was started on March 27 and was completed after more than 8 days of construction, ensuring absolute requirements on technique, safety and progress.

This is considered a major turning point in the process of building the “heart” of Long Thanh airport, the passenger terminal. The completion of this item is of key significance, directly affecting the overall progress of the entire bid package.

The central roof steel structure system has a total mass of more than 5,300 tons, assembled from 256 connection points according to strict European technical standards. The curved dome has an area of nearly 20,000m², with a span of up to 41m - requiring a high level of precise and synchronous structural lifting techniques.

To do this, the joint venture of contractors Vietur (package 5.10), ATAD and technical unit VSL (Switzerland) applied the world's leading modern lifting technology using a hydraulic jack system (Lifting) with 56 devices, each device has a load capacity of 40 to 330 tons. The giant structure was lifted to the predetermined position safely and with absolute precision, without any errors.

Advanced technologies such as load monitoring systems, lifting simulation software, 3D scanning technology, and building information modeling (BIM) have been deployed synchronously to strictly control construction accuracy, ensuring technical performance and absolute safety.

Control of technical parameters such as connection dimensions, deformation tolerances, thermal expansion, etc. are all strictly carried out by specialized equipment. This helps ensure that when the roof module is lifted, the connection points will match exactly with the previously assembled structural system.

ATAD representative said that the success of the central steel roof lifting project was the result of close coordination between the domestic engineering team and international experts, a key factor in conquering one of the biggest technical challenges at the construction site.

Previously, at working sessions with investors and contractors, leaders of the Ministry of Construction directed to accelerate the construction progress of the passenger terminal, emphasizing that completing the central steel roof item in 2025 is an important goal to ensure the overall progress of the Long Thanh International Airport project phase 1.
