According to the Coffee Barometer report on the coffee industry conducted by a group of non-profit organizations, Nestlé is assessed as a business with a comprehensive sustainability strategy in coffee production, including policies, goals and specific actions in social, environmental and economic aspects.

Nestlé leads the way in sustainability in coffee production

The report also noted Nestlé's dedicated investment in the coffee industry, with a special focus on sustainability right from the farm, through programs such as the Nescafé Plan focusing on combating climate change, conserving forests, and improving farmers' livelihoods.

“This is a recognition of our long-standing commitment to sustainability in coffee production,” said David Rennie, Nestlé’s Head of Coffee Brands. “Through our core programmes, including the Nescafé Plan and the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality programme, we work with farmers every day to ensure the economic and social sustainability of coffee farming and production. We are committed to continuously making progress and introducing new methods for sustainable coffee farming.”

In Vietnam, through the Nescafé Plan program implemented since 2011, Nestlé is supporting coffee farmers to convert to a regenerative, low-emission agricultural model through initiatives to help improve soil quality, protect water resources and biodiversity...

The 2023 Coffee Brew Index is published in the biennial Coffee Barometer, which analyzes the sustainability strategies of the world’s 11 leading coffee producers. The report was initiated by the international development organization Solidaridad and Conservation International; and conducted by Ethos Agriculture, a group of international experts in the coffee supply chain and industry.
