The third solo exhibition of female artist Truong Ngoc Hien, titled “Street and Flowers”, took place from September 11-20 at the Exhibition House 16 Ngo Quyen, Hanoi . More than 50 works, mainly painted on silk and do paper, are a gift that the artist dedicates to herself and the art-loving public, and at the same time a deep gratitude to Hanoi - the place where she was born and raised.

In the works on display, Hanoi appears not only through familiar streets but also through flowers associated with the life of the capital. The painting “Autumn in Hanoi” is a typical example of the artist’s deep affection for the capital. The image of moss-covered tiled roofs one after another in the space of the old town, viewed from above through the balcony, evokes a sense of familiarity of an ancient Hanoi.
Here, flowers, streets and autumn colors blend together in a slow pace of life, creating a picture that is both realistic and lyrical, evoking a sense of closeness and intimacy but also filled with nostalgia for an old, simple and poetic Hanoi.

Reminiscing about the ancient flower hobby of Hanoians, the female artist expressed her feelings through the painting “Narcissus”. This is a work rich in symbolism, honoring the beauty of pure flowers, the elegant hobby of Hanoians, and also evoking feelings of purity, nobility and hope for peace.
The work “Hoa Pieu” shows the familiar style of Truong Ngoc Hien: simple, rich in decoration, combining national spirit and romantic inspiration. The painting has a gentle beauty, but contains cultural depth. From a simple vase of flowers, the artist breathes life into the atmosphere of the mountainous region, memories of the mountains and forests and the figure of Thai women in Vietnamese life and consciousness.

Besides, Truong Ngoc Hien also expressed her deep affection for the streets and roads she had passed through with each individual memory through the works: "The Huc Bridge", "Ma May Street", "A corner of Co Nhue", "Hanoi Suburbs", "Afternoon Street". In particular, the work "Uncle Ho's soldiers liberate the capital" (oil on canvas, 130x100cm) most clearly expressed her passion for freedom and peace .
Artist Truong Ngoc Hien was born in 1946 in Yen Phu, a village on the West Lake of Hanoi. She has devoted her entire life to capturing the beauty of Hanoi. Although she grew up during the war and worked as a propaganda painter for 34 years at the Propaganda Department, Hanoi Department of Information, deep in her soul she is always haunted by her own world of flowers, streets and memories. She once shared: “I paint flowers like I paint friends. Looking at flowers makes my heart soften, I see purity, I see comfort”. Because she lives in Nghi Tam, where Quang Ba flower market is just a few steps away, flowers have become an endless source of inspiration for her works.
