According to the Society of Underwriters of America (SOA), the Vietnamese insurance market is entering a period of rapid growth, with a penetration rate of about 2% of GDP, lower than the regional average but with great room for growth. Experts say that with the amendment of the Law on Insurance Business, the industry will have a clear shift towards transparency and sustainable development.

However, the number of insurance actuaries in the country is still limited compared to the demand. Mr. Huy Tran, an insurance actuary at FWD Vietnam, said: "Those who are able to understand risks, comply with regulations and design appropriate products will be an important force in the future."
Insurance companies also emphasize that this is a career that requires a solid mathematical foundation, data analysis skills and strategic decision-making ability, contributing to ensuring financial security for businesses and society.
At seminars at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) and National Economics University (NEU), experts said that the development of artificial intelligence does not threaten but strongly complements the insurance actuarial profession.
Mr. Phuong Ba Chung, General Director of Techcom Life, commented: “AI can calculate quickly but cannot replace human thinking, design and social testing abilities. It is the actuary who will understand and control the results that AI creates.”

According to Mr. Vu Tuan Anh (MB Life), technology helps experts simulate cash flow for millions of insurance contracts, detect fraud and optimize pricing, but manual data verification skills and programming language knowledge are still essential.
However, to obtain an international certificate such as ASA or FSA of SOA, students usually take from 3 to 5 years. Mr. Huy Tran encourages students to start as early as possible, while practicing English and communication skills to integrate internationally.
As Vietnam promotes digital transformation and develops its social security system, actuaries are expected to play a central role in financial protection and promoting sustainable growth.
