  • Presenting 20 Tet gifts to Agent Orange victims

A typical example is Mr. Huynh Duc Tai, a resident of Hang Vinh Hamlet, who participated in the revolution and was affected by Agent Orange. Luckily, his body is healthy but his health is not as good as before. However, he did not surrender to fate and enthusiastically worked to produce and develop the economy .

After many years of hard work, Mr. Tai saved up and bought 2 hectares of land for improved extensive shrimp farming. However, the productivity was not high, the profit was only enough for family expenses. With diligence and flexibility in production, he took advantage of garden land, vacant land on the square bank to plant coconut and pineapple intercropping, effectively using short-term to support long-term.

The model of intercropping coconut and pineapple helps Mr. Huynh Duc Tai develop the economy.

Thanks to the combination of diverse production models, with 2 hectares of cultivated land giving him an income of over hundreds of millions of VND each year, his family has risen to develop the economy and improve the quality of life.

Both participating in the resistance war against the US and getting married, Mr. Trinh Hoang Chien and Mrs. Ta Kim Lang (Hang Vinh hamlet) are war invalids, infected with Agent Orange/Dioxin. Mr. Chien was infected with the poison, with a physical injury of 41-60%, while Mrs. Lang was infected with a level of 21-40%. However, overcoming the pain of Agent Orange, they worked, built a business and raised their children to become good people.

Mr. Chien said: “My wife and I returned to our hometown. Life was very difficult at that time, we had to work many jobs to raise our four children. I saw our fathers and grandfathers, and then my generation, working hard in the fields, so my wife and I were determined to give our children a good education.”

With that in mind, the couple worked hard, planned to save money for their children's education, and saved up to buy land for production. In addition to extensive shrimp farming, they took advantage of vacant land on the riverbank to grow vegetables and fruit trees to earn extra income.

Mrs. Lang shared: “The four children are only 1 or 2 years apart in age. This year, one child will go to university and the next year, so at that time, my husband and I told ourselves that we had to try our best. It was difficult and hard, but we were able to raise four children to a good education. However, thinking back, I still feel sad because there were times when things were so difficult that the oldest child only finished 12th grade and had to work to help his parents instead of graduating from university like his three younger siblings.”

Thanks to their good upbringing, their four children studied well and had stable jobs. After graduating from high school, the eldest daughter became a seamstress, the other three graduated from university and are working in government agencies.

Mr. Tran Van Trang, Chairman of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Nam Can town, said: “The policies of the Party and State, the attention of sectors and localities have partly helped the families of victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin stabilize their spirits and reduce their difficulties. Above all, the will and determination of many families of victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, they do not surrender to fate, work hard and strive to improve their lives”./.
