In his first court appearance after the ambush less than 500 feet from Trump, the suspect in the September 15 assassination plot was identified as Ryan W. Routh, 58. The suspect appeared calm and nonchalant despite being handcuffed and shackled while Judge Ryon McCabe questioned him, NBC News reported.

The defendant said he has a 25-year-old son. When asked about his income, the defendant said he currently has no money and only owns two trucks in Hawaii worth about $1,000 each.
The appearance lasted eight minutes and the man was charged with two federal crimes, according to AFP. One was possession of a firearm while a convicted felon and the other was possession of a de-coded firearm.
Police maintain security outside the courthouse in West Palm Beach, where the suspect made his initial appearance on September 16.
Officials said Routh could face a maximum of 15 years in prison if convicted of the first charge and an additional five years on the second charge.
Judge McCabe proceeded with the appointment of a defense attorney for the defendant and set the next court date for September 23.
Prosecutors are expected to file additional charges and file formal charges while the investigation is ongoing.

Court records also show more than 100 criminal charges have been filed against the defendant in the state of North Carolina.
After the golf incident, Mr. Trump returned to his home at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. He is expected to meet with acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe at noon on September 16 (local time) at Mar-a-Lago.
