"I really think I'm the one most likely to beat him. But I also don't want to be president at 85 or 86. So I handed the torch over," President Biden added. When asked by USA Today about his confidence in serving another four years, Biden replied, "I don't know."

When announcing his decision to withdraw, Biden said: "Although I intend to run for re-election, I believe that resigning and focusing on completing my duties as president for the remainder of my term is in the best interests of the Democratic Party and the country."

Before Biden withdrew from the 2024 presidential race in July, several polls suggested the incumbent president had a lower or equal chance of winning than Trump.
