A spokesman for Ms. Weinberger's office confirmed that she filed a bill this week to rename Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) Donald Trump International Airport. Mr. Trump's Air Force One often travels to PBI because of its proximity to Mar-a-Lago.
There are currently more than 10 commercial airports in the United States named after presidents, including famous airports such as John F. Kennedy in New York, Ronald Reagan in Arlington, George Bush in Houston and Gerald R. Ford in Grand Rapids.
This is not the first attempt to honor President Trump at major transportation hubs. In January, North Carolina Rep. Addison McDowell, along with several Republicans from that state, introduced a bill to rename Dulles International Airport in Virginia after President Trump.
According to information on the PBI website, this facility is ranked by the US Customs and Border Protection as the airport with the shortest security waiting time. Between May 2023 and May 2024, PBI welcomed more than 8 million passengers, a record high.
