Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets US President Donald Trump

The two leaders agreed to pay attention to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development between the two countries to become increasingly deeper, more substantial and more effective.

According to a special correspondent of the Vietnam News Agency, on the occasion of attending the 47th ASEAN Summit and related Summits in the capital Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, on the afternoon of October 26, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a brief meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the 13th ASEAN-US Summit.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister respectfully conveyed the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and senior Vietnamese leaders to US President Donald Trump to visit Vietnam.

President Donald Trump happily accepted the invitation and said he was looking forward to and would arrange time to visit Vietnam.

On the basis of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace , cooperation and sustainable development between Vietnam and the United States, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the US side to arrange a visit to the United States by General Secretary To Lam.

President Donald Trump suggested that the Vietnamese side promptly notify the US side and expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Prime Minister would also visit the US at a time convenient for both sides.

At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to pay attention to promoting the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development between Vietnam and the United States to become increasingly deeper, more substantial and more effective, including the early signing of the Vietnam-US Reciprocal Trade Agreement in a fair and equal direction, promoting US investment in Vietnam.

At the proposal of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President Donald Trump responded positively and acknowledged the proposal to recognize Vietnam as a market economy, remove Vietnam from the D1 and D3 strategic export lists, and directed senior US officials such as the Secretary of the Treasury and Trade Representative present at the Conference to promptly respond to these issues for Vietnam.

The Prime Minister said that Vietnam highly appreciates the role of US President Donald Trump in promoting peaceful resolution of recent conflict hotspots around the world.

The meeting on the sidelines of the ASEAN-US Summit between the two leaders, though short, demonstrated mutual understanding, respect, and agreement to continue to strongly, substantially, and effectively promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Also on the same day, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien had a bilateral meeting with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer to discuss the direction of implementing the Vietnam-US Joint Statement on the framework of the Fair and Balanced Reciprocal Trade Agreement; and met with US Deputy Secretary of State Jacob Helberg to discuss trade relations between the two countries and the possibility of cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), digital technology and supply chain partnerships, as well as the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the two sides in this field./.
