This is the fifth year that Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh has developed a model for growing cut roses in Sin Chai village, Ngu Chi Son commune. Previously, Mr. Tinh had grown cut flowers in many other localities such as Phu Tho and Lai Chau , but he said that Ngu Chi Son is a locality with many favorable conditions, especially the land and climate, which are very suitable for developing the cut rose cultivation model.
With 3 hectares, Mr. Tinh harvests 2-3 batches of roses each month, with each batch yielding about 100,000 stems/flowers. Mr. Tinh said that although this year's weather has been quite unfavorable due to heavy rains, causing many roses to be damaged and smaller than in previous years, it is still one of the crops with higher economic value than traditional crops in the area.
Currently, the price of roses at the garden ranges from 1,500 to 2,000 VND per stem. Therefore, from his 3 hectares of cut roses, Mr. Tinh still earns about 300-400 million VND per month.

"Seeing that growing roses in Ngu Chi Son was convenient and effective, I invited many friends and relatives with experience to rent land here to grow roses. To date, more than a dozen households here have participated in growing this type of plant, gradually forming a cut flower growing area with high economic value, while also providing jobs for many local laborers," Mr. Tinh added.

Not far from Mr. Tinh's rose garden, Ms. Pham Thi Toan is also busy harvesting and sorting roses to ship to distributors. According to Ms. Toan, growing roses in Ngu Chi Son is very convenient and can be harvested year-round. Thanks to the good weather, the plants here require less pesticide use than in other localities. "The roses grown here have large, thick blooms with many petals, so they are popular in markets inside and outside the province. Currently, our roses are mainly shipped to the lowlands to supply the markets in Hanoi and Phu Tho, with a small portion sold in the local market," Ms. Toan added.

Like the family of Mr. Tinh and Ms. Toan, in recent years, many farmers in Ngu Chi Son commune have focused on investing in and expanding the area for growing cut flowers. According to statistics from the People's Committee of Ngu Chi Son commune, the entire commune currently has about 60 hectares of cut flowers, with an average yield of 4.4 million stems/flowers per year. The majority of this area is dedicated to roses, with a small portion for lilies and chrysanthemums.
“The area dedicated to cut flower cultivation in the locality has been rapidly increasing in the last two years, opening up new avenues for the development of the local agricultural sector. Given the economic benefits, we are encouraging farmers to continue investing and expanding their cultivated area to increase commercial flower production, contributing to higher agricultural production values, increased income, and job creation for local workers.”
Expanding the area for cut flower cultivation is a suitable direction for Ngu Chi Son commune to leverage its potential and advantages in climate and soil to enhance agricultural production value, contribute to sustainable poverty reduction and increase people's income, and promote the development of rural agriculture in the area.
