On September 19, the Vietnam Olympic team began their journey at ASIAD 19, but up until now, fans still do not know which channel to cheer for coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his team.
The Vietnamese sports delegation set a target of winning 2-5 gold medals at the 19th ASIAD.
The reason is that Vietnamese television stations have refused to buy the broadcasting rights for ASIAD 19.
This means that, besides football, Vietnamese fans will not be able to watch other attractive competitions such as athletics, swimming, gymnastics or weightlifting.
Previously, the Organizing Committee wanted to sell the television rights of ASIAD 19 for 15 million USD (more than 300 billion VND).
A few days ago, the Organizing Committee decided to sharply reduce the copyright price of ASIAD to about 7 million USD (more than 160 billion VND).
However, this is still a very high number and Vietnamese television units all refused.
Talking about this, a representative of a TV station in Vietnam said: "ASIAD is a high-class playground, but the skyrocketing copyright price compared to the previous ASIAD is very unreasonable."
At the 2014 ASIAD, Korea only sold the copyright for 200,000 USD. Four years later, the amount increased to 2 million USD and was successfully purchased by the Voice of Vietnam at the last minute for about 1.5 million USD.
The Vietnamese sports delegation attending the 19th ASIAD has 504 members, including 337 athletes, 90 coaches, and 11 experts competing in 31/40 sports and 202/483 events of the Games.
The Vietnamese sports delegation also aims to win from 2 to 5 gold medals in sepak takraw, cycling, weightlifting, karate, shooting, archery, and chess.
The 19th ASIAD opening ceremony will take place on September 23 in Hangzhou (China), and will close on October 8.
