One of Mr. Bao's buffaloes.
For decades, Mr. Bao has earned his living by growing cassava and planting trees for reforestation. Previously, this 52-year-old man raised several pairs of buffaloes for plowing and hauling agricultural products. During his breeding activities, Mr. Bao bought, sold, traded, and crossbred buffaloes to create better, larger, and healthier breeds to better meet the demands of the labor force.
Thanks to this, the old farmer now owns a herd of 118 buffaloes, including a dozen unique and rare breeds such as the stork buffalo, min buffalo, cui buffalo, cui buffalo with leather horns, Indian buffalo, and Indian buffalo-domestic buffalo hybrids (Asian buffalo).
White buffaloes are buffaloes with white coats. In some places, white buffaloes are believed to bring good luck. Currently, Mr. Bao has 5 adult white buffaloes and 1 calf. These white buffaloes are all healthy and capable of working just as well as black buffaloes.
Mr. Bao said: "During the buying and selling process, I acquired a female buffalo with white fur. Seeing that this buffalo was gentle and had beautiful fur, I decided to breed it. Since then, 'this lady' has successively given birth to many calves with fur similar to their mother's."

The calf has fur that resembles its mother's.
Among this farmer's herd of buffalo, there are a few individuals of the "min" breed. Mr. Bao explained that the "min" buffalo is a hybrid of wild buffalo and domestic buffalo; it has short horns like those of a cow, curving forward rather than spreading wide to the sides like common buffalo. During the breeding process, he noticed that this breed is very strong and less susceptible to disease, so he kept them to breed and expand the herd.

Mr. Bao's individual buffalo
Currently, Mr. Bao's herd includes two adult buffaloes with very unusual horns. Both share a common characteristic: their horns curve downwards towards the ground. Mr. Bao calls them "curved buffaloes." There's a folk saying, "As strong as a curved buffalo," referring to the strength of this breed.

Mr. Bao's buffalo has funny-looking horns.
In particular, among the two wild buffaloes, there is one with "skin-horned wild buffaloes." This buffalo's horns are not as hard as those of a typical buffalo, but hang loosely above its head. When the buffalo moves, the horns sway like two dangling arms. Seeing their unique horns, which give them a distinctive appearance, Mr. Bao carefully raised and bred them. Currently, the elderly farmer has several wild buffaloes nearing maturity, their horns beginning to droop downwards.

"The 'horned buffalo' is very rare, and Mr. Bao carefully raises it."
Most notably, this man owns an Indian buffalo that is nearly one and a half times taller than its counterparts in the herd. Mr. Bao shared that he raised this Indian buffalo to crossbreed it with his domestic buffalo to improve the size and stature of his livestock. After crossbreeding the Indian buffalo with his domestic buffalo, this farmer now has several hybrid buffaloes with exceptionally large physiques.

A few young buffaloes are nearing adulthood, their horns beginning to droop.
In recent years, agriculture has been modernized. The image of buffaloes and oxen plowing and pulling carts has been replaced by modern machinery and vehicles. Buffaloes have also been "repurposed," providing meat for consumers and supplying hides and horns for the handicraft market.

This Indian buffalo is nearly one and a half times larger than its counterparts in the herd.

Every day, despite being busy with farm work, Mr. Bao still finds time to take care of his herd of buffaloes.
To ensure the safety and health of his buffalo herd, the elderly farmer hired a person with many years of experience in buffalo farming to take care of them. Despite being busy with farm work, every afternoon, Mr. Bao still takes the time to admire his precious buffaloes.
