One of Mr. Bao's buffaloes
For decades, Mr. Bao has made a living by growing cassava and afforestation. Previously, this 52-year-old man raised a number of pairs of buffaloes to plow and pull agricultural products for agricultural production. During the breeding process, Mr. Bao bought, sold, exchanged, and crossbred to create good, tall, and healthy buffaloes to better meet labor needs.
Thanks to that, this old farmer now has a herd of 118 buffaloes, including dozens of unique and rare buffaloes such as stork buffalo, min buffalo, cui buffalo, leather-horned cui buffalo, Indian buffalo, and Indian buffalo hybrid (Asian buffalo).
The stork buffalo is a buffalo with white fur. In some places, white buffaloes are believed to bring good luck. Currently, Mr. Bao has 5 adult stork buffaloes and 1 calf. These stork buffaloes are as healthy and capable of working as black buffaloes.
Mr. Bao said: “During the purchase process, I bought a female buffalo with white fur. Seeing that this buffalo was gentle and had beautiful fur, I raised it for breeding. Since then, this 'lady' has given birth to many calves with fur like her mother.”

The calf has the same coat as its mother.
In this old farmer's herd of buffalo, there are also a few min buffalo. Mr. Bao explained that min buffalo are a cross between wild buffalo and domestic buffalo; they have short horns like cow's horns and curve forward, not spread out to the sides like normal buffalo. During the process of raising them, he realized that this breed of buffalo is very strong and is rarely affected by diseases, so he kept them and expanded the herd.

Mr. Bao's buffalo
Currently, in Mr. Bao's herd, there are two adult buffaloes with very strange horns. Both of these animals have one thing in common: two horns that curve downwards to the ground. Mr. Bao calls them "buffalo cui". There is a folk saying "Strong as buffalo cui" to refer to the strength of this buffalo species.

Mr. Bao's funny horned buffalo
In particular, among the two buffaloes, there is a “leather-horned buffalo”. The horns of this buffalo are not as hard as the horns of a normal buffalo but hang on its head. When the buffalo moves, the horns swing like two hanging arms. Seeing that they have unique horns, creating a different shape, Mr. Bao carefully raised them and bred them. Currently, the old farmer has a few buffaloes that are about to reach adulthood with horns that are starting to droop.

"Buffalo with horns and skin" is very rare, carefully raised by Mr. Bao
Most notably, this man has an Indian buffalo with a body that is nearly one and a half times taller than the other buffaloes in the herd. Mr. Bao shared that the reason he raised this Indian buffalo was because he wanted to crossbreed it with domestic buffaloes to improve the stature of the herd. After a period of crossbreeding between Indian buffaloes and domestic buffaloes, this farmer had in his hands a number of hybrid buffaloes with outstandingly tall bodies.

Some buffaloes are almost grown up with their horns starting to droop down.
In recent years, agriculture has been modernized. The image of buffaloes and cows plowing and pulling carts has been replaced by modern machinery and vehicles. Buffaloes have also been “repurposed” to provide meat for consumers and provide leather and horns for the handicraft market.

The Indian buffalo is nearly one and a half times taller than the other buffaloes in the herd.

Every day, despite being busy with farm work, Mr. Bao still takes time to take care of his herd of buffalo.
To ensure the safety and health of his buffalo herd, the old farmer hired a person with many years of experience in raising buffalo to take care of them. Although he is busy with many farm jobs, every afternoon, Mr. Bao still takes time to look at his rare buffaloes./.
