- Ring Road 2 "struggling" to bear the load
Due to the prolonged high tide, combined with the severe deterioration of Mau Than road surface, there are many potholes, causing motorcyclists to slip and fall frequently, causing collisions to occur continuously. Right in front of Mr. Luong The Khang's house, this road has accidents almost every day.
Mr. Luong The Khang, with a wooden ladder in hand, directly controlled traffic on Mau Than Street, Ring Road 2, An Xuyen Ward at noon on September 18 so that his wife could avoid an accident.
Mr. Khang shared: “Almost every day, someone falls off their bike, gets scratched, or has their bike damaged. I feel so sorry for them, especially women, the elderly, and sometimes even small children fall off. I thought I couldn’t stand by and watch forever, so I took things from the house and set up warning signs and stood outside on the street to remind them, slow down their bikes, and avoid the damaged section.”
Many times after buying scrap, he brought out household items and placed them on potholes as a warning. But the situation of motorcyclists falling off continued, and the large number of trucks caused frequent traffic jams.
Notably, at noon on September 18, seeing that the traffic was dangerous, Mr. Khang held a wooden stick and stood in the middle of the road to regulate it. He worked continuously for 4 hours, from 11:00 to 15:00, until the An Xuyen ward's order - construction - environment force came to put up a danger warning sign.
At around 3pm on September 18, An Xuyen ward authorities came to place a warning sign at the degraded section of Mau Than street. Seeing this, Mr. Khang stopped directing traffic on the street.
He expressed his wish: “I just hope the government will soon repair this road so that people can travel with peace of mind. Everyone here wishes for a clean road, without accidents or traffic jams. As for me, if necessary, I will continue to help regulate traffic, as long as people are safe.”
Although Luong The Khang’s actions were small, they were meaningful. While waiting for the authorities to fix the problem, the image of a person who makes a living by scrap metal but is willing to stand for hours in the sun and rain to keep people safe has left many emotions and spread the spirit of community service.
