Earning income from voice through jobs such as MC, voice talent is a trend that many people are pursuing, especially young people. With the increasing demand in the advertising, press, and media industries, partners looking for voice talent often base on their ability to pay appropriate remuneration, which can be a few hundred thousand but sometimes millions of dong for each program or each product.

Along with that is the pressure of competition, when the number of people pursuing the profession is increasing compared to the job demand, or the development of artificial intelligence (AI) with increasingly natural voices. However, for many young people, opportunities are created from passion and serious learning in this job, which is jokingly called "talking a lot".
People who like to “talk a lot”
Graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Education (University of Da Nang), Bui Xuan Tan (born in 1992) used to host online radio shows and record some videos during his student days. However, it was not until he graduated in 2014 that he officially pursued a career as a voice talent with the "launching pad" being the 2014 Da Nang City Talent MC Gold Award.
From that opportunity, after nearly 10 years, Mr. Tan had the opportunity to contribute his voice in many fields such as: TVC advertising, radio talkback advertising, radio show hosting, documentaries, corporate films and cartoon dubbing. Of course, the work also comes with pressure, when having to stay up late with partners to record products on time, "reluctantly" bothering the neighbors because he stayed up until... 1am to shout advertising slogans, recording the same content up to 10 times but still not satisfying the customer...
As a second-year student at the University of Education (University of Danang ), Le Thi Ngoc Van (born in 2001) has had a passion for voice reading and being an MC since high school. From the times her teachers created conditions for her to read important documents, and then becoming an excellent team member reading the Youth Union admission document in front of many peers in the city, the young student began to enjoy and learn about the job. When entering university, Van boldly accepted the first jobs related to voice.
Having undergone MC training and taking on the role of event MC, voice radio, podcast, television announcer in Quang Nam, Da Nang and currently working as a communications staff for a tourism company, Le Vu Kim Tuyen (born 2000) has a favorite side job of making podcasts with topics about family, love, nature... Currently, Tuyen has products distributed by copyrighted channels and received by many listeners. This is a popular form abroad for many years but has only become popular in Vietnam in recent years.
“A podcast is not difficult to make, but maintaining it requires time, effort, and crystallization of experience and unique ideas to attract listeners. If it is simple, it will quickly become boring and easy to change channels,” Tuyen said.
More than just voice
In Da Nang, there are many units that organize MC, voice and soft skills training classes such as: Rong Tien Sa, Dana Skills. In addition, the journalism bachelor training program of the University of Education has also integrated a module on program hosting. It can be said that this is a favorable environment for young people to build a foundation and find opportunities in the profession. According to editor, MC Thieu An, founder of Dana Skills, to be able to develop in the profession, not only a good voice is needed but also other skills such as writing, editing, pronunciation, confidence and good health.
Le Vu Kim Tuyen admits that her starting point was zero, it is not easy to progress and perfect her voice to pursue the "voice selling profession" without effort. Trying out different fields will complement the skills of voice talents.
“For MCs, the knowledge and communication skills of an MC will be very helpful in reading voice for other content. Depending on the nature and requirements of the partner, the voice talent can change the voice color to suit the content,” Tuyen shared.
According to Mr. Bui Xuan Tan, if a voice talent has a certain brand, he will create a prestigious career profile with big brands, of course, he can live a stable life with the profession for a long time. However, to have a stable career, the voice talent himself must be diligent, make efforts to find opportunities and build a good personal brand, create a job network because not every time of the year is the peak month of "shows" (months with many events, advertising campaigns).
“The job of reading voice over radio and podcasts is not to show your face but people still recognize your voice on the street, that is a happiness. This job allows me to have the opportunity to flexibly change my voice to help brands express the message they want to the public. I realize that voice is a treasure, the more you exploit it, the more surprised you will be by the things you can do,” said Mr. Tan.
To maintain their voice, many voice talents said they have to pay attention to their health, from limiting cold drinks, avoiding sore throats to controlling their volume when communicating, limiting screaming, and keeping their throats relaxed, resting, and limiting accepting work when their voice is not good to ensure product quality and health. In addition, there is lifestyle, because according to Mr. Tan, the voice is also a part of the soul, so to have a truly inspiring voice, one needs to have a positive spirit, tolerance, sharing and a good lifestyle to convey the best content to everyone.
