Mr. Luong Xuan Nguyen - a prestigious person, village elder of Tan Huong village, Tam Chung commune.

After being discharged from the army, Mr. Nguyen returned to contribute to the locality, holding many different positions, from Commune Police Chief, Chairman of the People's Committee, then Secretary of the Tam Chung Commune Party Committee, from 1982 to 1992. No matter what position he held, he was always an exemplary cadre, devoted to the people. In 1996, he was elected as Chairman of the Veterans Association, Term I, old Muong Lat District. During his time in this role, he and the association gathered veterans, united to help each other develop the economy , and set an example in patriotic emulation movements. In 2002, he retired, but instead of enjoying a leisurely old age, he chose to continue to contribute, being a prestigious person of Tan Huong village, a "bridge" between the people and the local Party Committee and government.

Tan Huong is a village consisting of Thai and Muong people, creating a great solidarity bloc from culture to life among the people is a very important issue. With the advantage of being a prestigious commune cadre, any movement deployed or task launched receives high consensus from the people in the village. Simple, humble but steadfast, Mr. Nguyen still regularly participates in Party cell activities with 22 Party members in the village. He said: "This November, I will be awarded the 50-year Party membership badge. As a Party member, you must be exemplary, say what you do. If you do it first, people will believe and follow."

Tan Huong village has now "changed its skin", but to achieve that change was a long process in which Mr. Nguyen and the party members in the village have always persistently campaigned and propagandized for people to gradually abandon bad customs. From weddings, funerals to child marriage, forced marriage... customs that were once deeply rooted in people's lives. "If you want people to listen, you have to speak with love, not with orders", Mr. Nguyen shared simple experiences but summarized from decades of being attached to the grassroots.

Although he is 75 years old, Mr. Nguyen is still enthusiastic about going to every alley, to every house, encouraging his children and grandchildren in the village to preserve solidarity and promote the village's traditions. Not only is he a pioneer in building a civilized lifestyle, Mr. Nguyen also actively encourages people to develop the economy and join hands in building new rural areas. He and other veterans in the village mobilize people to practice a civilized lifestyle; join hands in building internal roads, renovating houses, maintaining environmental sanitation... Thanks to that solidarity, Tan Huong village currently has only 7 poor households out of a total of 50 households with 219 people. At the end of 2024, Tan Huong village was recognized as meeting new rural standards, becoming the pride of the local people.

Talking about the role of Mr. Nguyen, the head of Tan Huong village, Luong Van Phen commented: "Mr. Nguyen is a prestigious person, the village elder of the village, very enthusiastic in the general movements, he rolls up his hands to do everything in the village. For example, in the village, there are times when small conflicts arise between households from dividing production land or organizing festivals, Mr. Nguyen himself takes the initiative to mediate. He and the party members in the cell go to each house, persistently analyze right and wrong, and suggest ways of behaving based on village solidarity. Thanks to that, many seemingly tense incidents have been resolved satisfactorily, without causing complaints or loss of internal solidarity."

Mr. Luong Xuan Nguyen's efforts have been recognized by all levels and sectors. He has been awarded the Third Class Resistance Medal by the Party and the State; along with many certificates of merit from all levels and sectors, for his contributions in building and developing the great solidarity bloc of ethnic groups in the border areas. But, for him, the greatest reward is the trust and consensus of the people of Tan Huong village. Whenever the village has a problem, he stands up to mediate and mobilize; whenever there is a movement, he is the first to participate. Mr. Nguyen shared: "As long as I have the strength, I will continue to work. As long as I can contribute to the movements of the village, as long as I can say something to make my children and grandchildren believe and follow the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State, I will try my best."
