Recently, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism solemnly held a ceremony to award the Medal "For the Cause of Culture, Sports and Tourism" to Ms. Le Thi Hong Van, former Ambassador - Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO, currently Acting Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO - Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong affirmed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism respects and highly appreciates the positive and effective contributions of Ms. Le Thi Hong Van during her tenure as Ambassador, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO.
As an “extended arm”, Ms. Le Thi Hong Van has actively participated and proactively contributed to the implementation of cultural diplomacy, deepened the partnership between Vietnam and UNESCO, concretized the policy of raising the level of multilateral diplomacy, and enhanced the effectiveness of Vietnam’s participation and contributions to UNESCO.
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, Vice Chairman of the UNESCO National Commission, emphasized that Vietnam has never held so many important positions at the same time in UNESCO mechanisms as during the tenure of Ms. Le Thi Hong Van: taking on the role of Vice Chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, Vice Chairman of the Intergovernmental Committee of the 2003 Convention on the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage and member of the World Heritage Committee for the 2023-2027 term.

In her capacity as Ambassador - Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO, Ms. Le Thi Hong Van actively coordinated the implementation of activities such as the visit of the UNESCO Director General to Vietnam to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the Prime Minister's visit to UNESCO in 2021, in which the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO to organize the Exhibition on 45 years of Vietnam-UNESCO partnership...
In particular, the activities chaired by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize the Vietnam Culture-Tourism Week 2023 in Paris, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-France diplomatic relations and the 24th Session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the World Heritage Convention, left a deep impression on heritage lovers around the world. At this Session, Vietnam was elected to become a member of the World Heritage Committee for the 2023-2027 term.

At the ceremony, the Acting Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO sincerely thanked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for always closely coordinating and actively supporting the implementation of cooperation activities between Vietnam and UNESCO in the recent past. The Ambassador was moved to express his honor and pride to receive the Medal for the cause of culture, sports and tourism.
In recent times, the Cultural Subcommittee (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) has actively implemented cultural cooperation activities, contributing to affirming the role and position of Vietnam in the UNESCO mechanism. Among these successes, it is necessary to mention the close direction of Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, Head of the Cultural Subcommittee and the enthusiasm of the leaders and staff of the Department of International Cooperation and the Department of Cultural Heritage.
The Ambassador hopes to continue to contribute and cooperate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the coming time.
Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong congratulated the Ambassador on completing his term of office at the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to UNESCO in France and hoped that the Ambassador, in his new position as Acting Director of the Department of Cultural Diplomacy and UNESCO - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Secretary General of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, would continue to accompany the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in cooperative activities with UNESCO and achieve more achievements in the coming time.
