As a place that preserves the long-standing cultural sediments of the ancient capital, Hanoi Old Quarter is not only attractive for its ancient architecture, craft villages, and Ke Cho craft streets, but also for its vibrant space of tangible and intangible heritage.
The Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter said that over the years, the work of preserving and promoting heritage values has received attention from the government. The Management Board has coordinated with many units, artisans, artists, designers, etc. to organize a series of rich events, imbued with the identity of Thang Long - Hanoi.
This year, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, the Management Board organized a series of activities at many relic sites to widely introduce heritage values, and at the same time call on the community to join hands to protect and promote heritage in the spirit of Hanoi - Creative City.
The opening of the series of activities is the program to honor 30 years of the heritage value of Hanoi Ao Dai, taking place on the evening of November 15 at the relic site 40 Lan Ong. There will also be an exhibition of famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong and a space to experience medicinal tea. Lan Ong Street - a street of traditional medicine hundreds of years old - continues to be honored through an exhibition about famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong. The activity aims to promote the value of traditional craft streets, contributing to the development of tourism and services in Hoan Kiem district.
At Kim Ngan communal house space (42-44 Hang Bac) is the project "Kim Ngan communal house storytelling space". The project uses the unique patterns of Kim Ngan communal house to build a synchronous identity system for the architecture, signs, display items... The space recreates the craft guild council, introduces traditional products such as jewelry, horn products, and displays the application of pattern research into tourism publications and gifts. This is an important step towards synchronizing the cultural heritage space in the Old Quarter.
On the evening of November 22, at Kim Ngan communal house, there will also be a heritage music performance program called “Old Town Music Story”. Launched in 2015, the program is organized by the Management Board in coordination with the Dong Kinh Ancient Music group, bringing together many leading artists of traditional music. On this year’s anniversary, the program will perform the quintessence of Vietnamese ancient music in a space imbued with the Old Town.
In addition, at this relic site, visitors can also experience many activities such as printing ancient motifs with Thanh Lieu woodblocks; making souvenirs from traditional materials such as silk, wood, do paper, etc. These activities bring opportunities for visitors to create their own handicrafts imbued with the traditional craft identity of Hanoi, thereby helping the heritage "live" in modern life.
The series of activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day 2025 not only honors heritage values, but also affirms the creativity, perseverance and responsibility of the community in preserving the precious assets of Thang Long - Hanoi. The diverse programs promise to bring the public unique experiences, contributing to bringing the image of Hanoi - Creative City closer to international friends.
