Many cases of dog tapeworm in Khanh Hoa, people proactively prevent the disease

SKĐS - After knowing that there were many cases in Khanh Hoa infected with dog tapeworm that had to go to the hospital for examination and treatment, many local people took the initiative to prevent the disease.

The leader of Khanh Hoa Province Tropical Diseases Hospital said that in recent months, many people have come to the hospital to examine and treat parasitic diseases (also known as larval diseases such as dog tapeworm, dog roundworm, liver fluke, etc.).

All cases coming to the hospital are received, examined and given timely treatment advice to minimize health impacts.

Specifically, from the beginning of August to the end of October, nearly 6,400 people came to the clinic for examination and treatment of parasitic diseases (dog tapeworm, liver fluke, etc.). Of these, most received medication and treatment as outpatients.

Dr. Nguyen Bui Nhat Tuyen - Khanh Hoa Province Tropical Diseases Hospital said that among the people coming to examine and treat parasitic diseases in the past few months, 60% were related to dog tapeworm, nearly 40% were related to liver fluke.

Faced with the situation of many cases of dog tapeworm, many people have proactively prevented the disease.

In many places in Khanh Hoa, dogs still roam freely and defecate indiscriminately.

Mr. Le Thinh (Cam Lam district, Khanh Hoa) shared that his family has a few dogs but in the past they were negligent in cleaning up after their pets defecated. However, now, every time the dogs defecate, he immediately disposes of the waste and washes his hands with soap afterward.

Mr. Thinh also told the children in the family and the neighbors that when they see a dog defecating, they must tell an adult to come clean it up and absolutely not touch it.

To prevent dog tapeworm disease, Ms. Do Th. (Dien Khanh district, Khanh Hoa) regularly bathes her dogs and cleans their living areas every day, absolutely avoiding pollution.

Some other people who raise dogs and cats also take the initiative to clean their pets regularly, not letting them on beds, chairs or sleeping places. In particular, all food is cooked thoroughly, especially animal organs, to prevent the risk of dog tapeworm infection.

When there are symptoms of suspected dog tapeworm disease, such as itching in many areas of the body, people should go to a medical facility for examination and treatment advice.

According to Dr. Nguyen Bui Nhat Tuyen, most of the recent cases of dog tapeworm in Khanh Hoa are mild, mainly causing itching, affecting daily life. However, people should not be subjective. When experiencing symptoms such as rash, itching in many places (palms, feet, face), nausea, constipation, abdominal pain, etc., they should go to a medical facility for timely examination and treatment.

To prevent dog tapeworm disease, people should avoid eating raw food, cook food thoroughly, drink boiled water; limit eating salad, blood pudding, sour sausage or undercooked meat dishes, because tapeworm eggs can exist in them.

Families raising dogs, cats, livestock and poultry need to keep their breeding areas clean and vaccinate their pets properly. In addition, dogs and cats need to be chained or locked in designated areas to avoid letting them run wild and defecate indiscriminately.
