Who is on the Vietnam tennis team?

At the 32nd SEA Games 2 years ago in Cambodia, the Vietnamese men's tennis team participated with 5 players: Ly Hoang Nam, Trinh Linh Giang, Nguyen Dac Tien, Nguyen Van Phuong, Pham Minh Tuan. This was considered a SEA Games that did not go as expected when Ly Hoang Nam and his teammates did not win a gold medal compared to the previous 2 SEA Games, but only won 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. This time, with Ly Hoang Nam and Trinh Linh Giang switching to pickleball, the Vietnamese men's tennis team had to rejuvenate its force, and at the same time lost its position compared to its opponents in the region.

Recently, the Vietnam Tennis Federation (VTF) announced the preliminary list of the Vietnamese men's tennis team to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games, including Vu Ha Minh Duc, Nguyen Van Phuong, Dinh Viet Tuan Minh, and Nguyen Minh Phat. This is also the squad that participated in the Davis Cup Group III Asia - Oceania region in July. In which, the reigning national champion Vu Ha Minh Duc is the main force in the men's singles event. In the past time, he has tried to compete in international tournaments within the International Tennis Federation (ITF) system but has not achieved good results.

The latest rankings of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) do not have any Vietnamese tennis players. Previously, Vietnamese tennis was proud to have Ly Hoang Nam ranked 231st in ATP, but at present, there are only players from Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. At the 33rd SEA Games, Minh Duc and his teammates will have to compete with very strong opponents such as Macimus Jones (Thailand, ranked 363rd in ATP), Kasidit Samrej (Thailand, ranked 408th in ATP) or current champion Rifki Fitriadi (Indonesia, ranked 844th in ATP)... In the men's doubles, tennis player Nguyen Van Phuong plays a key role when competing with strong opponents from Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Mr. Nguyen Kim Cuong, in charge of the tennis department of the Vietnam Sports Administration, said that despite the rejuvenation of the force, the Vietnamese men's tennis team is also well prepared, ready to seize the opportunity to aim for high achievements at the 33rd SEA Games. According to the plan, the team will have a 2-week training trip in November in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to stabilize both their skills and spirit before conquering the 33rd SEA Games.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese-Canadian tennis player Savanna Ly Nguyen is the most expected member of the Vietnamese women's tennis team participating in the 33rd SEA Games. Two years ago, this 25-year-old tennis player excellently won the bronze medal in the women's singles at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. Her persistent playing style based on a good technical foundation helps her compete fiercely with the top opponents in the region. Recently, she has maintained her training and competed in international women's tournaments in Canada, so she has a stable performance, ready to join the Vietnamese team to hunt for medals at the SEA Games next December.

The remaining hope for Vietnamese women's tennis is Tran Thuy Thanh Truc. Having studied abroad while continuing to play tennis, she returned with the title of national women's singles champion in 2025 and was awarded a place to participate in the 33rd SEA Games. This 24-year-old tennis player has a powerful forehand that promises to be effective in helping Vietnamese women's tennis reap success. In addition, tennis player Nguyen Thi Mai Linh (runner-up in women's singles of the 2025 national championship) is in the squad to compete in the 33rd SEA Games for the first time and also promises to shine.
