Taking us on a tour of his family's lychee garden, Mr. Ngo Van Hung, a member of the Cooperative, shared: “My family grows about 2 hectares of lychee according to GlobalGAP standards. To overcome the drought that lasted from October 2024 to April 2025, we actively watered the trees; kept dry leaves around the base to keep them moist, and sprinkled lime powder or probiotics to repel and prevent the invasion of harmful microorganisms. A few recent rains have helped the trees grow well. We have cleared the dry leaves around the base to add specialized fertilizers to help the fruit grow big, have thick flesh, small seeds, and be sweet and fragrant.”
Mr. Hung estimates that this year, this GlobalGAP lychee garden will yield 25-30 tons of fruit. Several businesses have visited the garden and discussed purchasing for export. In addition, the Cooperative also coordinates with many travel agencies to organize attractive sightseeing and experience tours.
In Phuc Thanh residential group, Quy Son ward (Chu town), there are 24 households growing GlobalGAP lychee with a scale of about 23 hectares, an increase of 7 hectares compared to 2024 and accounting for half of the lychee area of the entire residential group. All households participate in the Lychee Production and Consumption Cooperative Group.

Mr. Chu Van Dinh, the group leader, said that each member always upholds a sense of responsibility and strictly follows GlobalGAP lychee care techniques. When the group leader announces, all households will buy fertilizer and pesticides together; and spray the plants together to prevent and treat diseases at the same time to minimize the spread of pests and diseases.
Lychee growers also use clean water to water their plants, do not let chickens roam the lychee gardens, and keep the environment clean. All stages and steps are carefully recorded in books. Thanks to proper care, the quality of lychees in the gardens is consistent.
This season, gardeners estimate that 1 hectare will yield 12-15 tons of fruit; prices in previous years ranged from 25-30 thousand VND/kg (7-10 thousand VND higher than normal lychees). Currently, some businesses have reached agreements with gardeners to purchase lychees for export to Japan and other markets.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Chu town, the area has nearly 7.2 thousand hectares of lychee. This year, the total output is estimated at 43 thousand tons. Of which, there are 5 GlobalGAP lychee production areas (exported to Japan; some European countries, the United States) with an area of nearly 50 hectares, estimated output from 600 - 800 tons; concentrated in the wards: Thanh Hai, Quy Son and Kien Lao commune.
Over the years, GlobalGAP lychee growers in the area have strictly implemented the production process from the use of pesticides and fertilizers to post-harvest treatment measures, ensuring that the products do not contain toxic substances and are safe for consumers.
This helps the products have uniform quality and size; beautiful appearance; fresh taste, meeting the strict requirements of the export market. On the other hand, the cultivation area according to this standard has a clean environment; the crops have good resistance to the negative impacts of climate change; and land and water resources are preserved.
For the 2025 lychee season to be successful, early on, the People's Committee of Chu town directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to pay attention to training and instructing cadres, production steering groups, cooperative groups and lychee-producing farmers on management work, GlobalGAP lychee production process and export market regulations.
Instruct people to use organic fertilizers and microbial fertilizers; use pesticides in the permitted list, prioritize biological pesticides and pesticides with short quarantine periods, and ensure quarantine periods; apply advanced technology in preliminary processing, preservation, packaging, and processing to meet domestic consumption and export requirements.
The specialized agency has proactively reviewed, inspected, evaluated, and monitored all existing growing area codes and packing facility codes and proposed new issuance to expand the growing area of high-quality lychee.
Regarding trade promotion, the town has printed and distributed thousands of leaflets, product decals, and packaging with registered product logos for agencies, units, businesses, and cooperatives to promote and introduce products.
Strengthening connections, inviting businesses, supermarkets, cooperatives, organizations and individuals to join in linking production and consumption of products according to the value chain. Cooperating with industries, localities and businesses to sign contracts for consumption of agricultural products in some supermarket systems such as: Saigon Coop, WinMart, Hapro, Coopmart, Go...
At the same time, guide entities to build and maintain distribution channels and consume agricultural products on digital platforms (Zalo, Facebook, Youtube, Shopee, Tiki, Lazada ...); support a number of businesses and cooperatives to participate in introducing and consuming products at exhibitions and fairs.
Comrade Nguyen Van Manh, Vice Chairman of Chu Town People's Committee emphasized that producing lychee according to GlobalGAP standards is an important step in enhancing the value and competitiveness of Bac Giang lychee in the international market, contributing to the sustainable development of the local agricultural sector.
It is expected that lychee will be harvested in late June and early July 2025. Due to the short harvest time, the town has directed specialized agencies; wards and communes to continue guiding people to produce safe lychee, improve packaging to suit consumer tastes; ensure sufficient electricity and auxiliary goods for harvesting and preservation; prepare infrastructure and human resources for smooth consumption; proactively develop plans to ensure traffic safety and security and order during the lychee season.
