Barcelona director Deco recently revealed that Nico Williams has expressed a desire to join the La Liga champions. The Catalan club is prepared to pay the €58 million release clause.
However, in a surprising development today, Athletic Bilbao announced a new 10-year deal for Nico Williams, with a release clause that is 50% higher than before.
Nico decided to stay at the club he had been with since he was 11 years old and continue to play alongside his brother Inaki Williams.
Sharing his thoughts on Bilbao's homepage, Nico Williams said: "When you make a decision, for me, the most important thing is the heart."

Since turning professional with Bilbao's first team (2021), Nico Williams has made 167 appearances and scored 31 goals.
For Barcelona, the rejection was a major blow, as Sporting Director Deco had stated that signing a winger was a priority for the club this summer.
With Nico Williams and Luis Diaz at the top of the list untouchable, Barca could turn their attention to Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.
