Due to the adjustment of the match schedule to balance with the Spanish Super Cup, Barcelona and Atletico faced off in the early match of round 19 of La Liga. Barcelona used 4 strikers Yamal, Olmo, Raphinha, Lewandowski while Atletico's goal-scoring task belonged to Alvarez.
Atletico pressed the ball from the start and in the 19th minute, Molina sent a pass that bypassed Barcelona's defense, allowing Baena to escape and face goalkeeper Joan Garcia and open the scoring.

The linesman raised his flag for offside but VAR technology determined the goal was valid for Barcelona. However, in the 26th minute, Pedri passed the ball to Raphinha, the Brazilian striker passed goalkeeper Jan Oblak and gently put the ball into the empty net, equalizing 1-1 for Barcelona.
Shortly afterwards, Pablo Barrios fouled Dani Olmo in the box and Barcelona were awarded a penalty. Lewandowski stepped up but his 11m kick went over the bar.
Barcelona continued to play well, Lamine Yamal made a delicate cross for Lewandowski to head but goalkeeper Oblak did an excellent job of diving to save. The Polish striker missed two consecutive good chances in the first half.
In the second half, the game continued to favor Barcelona. Raphinha's shot went wide in an open position. On Atletico's side, Giuliano Simeone's shot went wide in a confusing manner when facing goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
Barcelona's sharpness was shown in the 65th minute, Dani Olmo performed a tricky turn and shot, helping Barcelona lead 2-1. The Spanish midfielder injured his shoulder when falling while trying to finish and had to make way for Marcus Rashford.

In the 70th minute, Barcelona continued to suffer losses when Pedri left the field due to injury. Atletico had a chance to regain control of the game and Thiago Almada skillfully dribbled into the penalty area, but due to losing balance, his shot went wide of the post.
Barcelona had many sharp counter-attacks and the talent of goalkeeper Oblak saved Atletico many times. In the 90+6 minute, Alejandro Balde assisted Ferran Torres to score the goal that sealed a 3-1 victory for Barcelona.
Defeating Atletico 3-1, Barcelona had their 5th consecutive win in La Liga and continued to lead the rankings with 37 points, 4 points more than Real Madrid. Atletico remained in 4th place with 31 points/15 matches.
