Young and talented
While skin and hair are always the “main characters” of the daily beauty process, oral health is often only concerned when there is a problem. However, there seems to be a significant change in the “smile care” market. Understanding this, Doan Thi Phuong Thao has built a fairly systematic startup roadmap since her school days.
In 2013, after graduating from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City, Dr. Doan Thi Phuong Thao decided to stay in Ho Chi Minh City to gain experience for her career in the dental care industry. After more than 7 years of working at many hospitals, with the valuable knowledge she had accumulated, Phuong Thao decided to open a dental clinic with only one staff member - herself.
With the desire to bring many advanced techniques and equipment to serve the people of the western gateway of Ho Chi Minh City, Phuong Thao plans to prepare capital to build a modern dental center.
Looking back over the years, there are many things I have not been able to do, but there are also many wonderful things when I accepted to step out of my comfort zone. I personally feel very grateful that my family accompanied me during that period, and now I have like-minded staff who bring many values to the community.

“While working at hospitals, I had the opportunity to meet many patients with various diseases. However, the investment in hospitals at that time was not large enough for the medical team to perform more specialized services such as cosmetic surgery related to teeth, jaws, face or high-end porcelain veneers… That was the reason that motivated me to form my own choice to proactively develop myself, invest in modern technology for dentistry and strive to build my own Doan Gia brand,” Dr. Phuong Thao revealed.
With a clear vision and direction, the female CEO born in 1989 has somewhat stepped into her dream. However, to reach the finish line of success, everyone must go through certain challenges. Looking back on the journey, Dr. Phuong Thao confided: “In the beginning, capital was very limited, the small clinic only had one dental chair, while I myself held many jobs, from being a specialized treating doctor, to consulting, taking care of customers, and also being a receptionist, cashier…”.
Up to now, from the initial customer base of family and close friends, Dr. Phuong Thao has gradually won over her neighbors. After more than a year of starting her business, the female doctor added two more dental chairs, had more teammates and received a lot of trust from customers. After more than 5 years of development, Doan Gia Dental Clinic has recorded remarkable developments, winning over customers in the dental care industry - a very strict and challenging market.

Constantly improve yourself
Dental diseases are one of the problems that greatly affect overall health, but are not given as much attention as other diseases. According to the latest statistics from the Central Institute of Dentistry, more than 90% of Vietnamese people have dental diseases, mainly caused by people's eating habits and dental care. Of which, more than 80% of adults and the elderly have permanent tooth decay. The rate of tooth decay in children aged 6-8 is 85%. Notably, 94% of these young children are not examined and have treatment measures.
Although highly competitive, it can be seen that the healthcare market in general and the dental industry in particular in Vietnam are developing strongly, with great potential and increasing demand, so this industry will become a trend in the near future.
In that trend, from a "newbie" in the market, Doan Gia Dental Clinic continuously expands its scale, invests in advanced technology and equipment, and improves the quality of the medical staff's skills to develop many advanced and specialized techniques, apply and use new materials, and 3D technology on par with other countries in the region and the world .
According to the 8X female CEO, the investment capital at Doan Gia Dental Clinic has increased 10 times compared to the initial stage, both in terms of the number of dental chairs and medical staff, as well as machinery, equipment and technology. The sweet fruit of course came after the efforts of will, determination and serious investment. Currently, the value brought by Doan Gia Dental Clinic has increased a hundred times compared to the initial start-up time.
“If I wait until I have enough conditions, I don’t know when I can realize my dream, so I decided to work and invest continuously. Up to now, all activities have been put into orbit, Doan Gia Dental Clinic has begun to increase more specialized services. In particular, the deeper the investment, the greater the opportunity to improve the capacity of specialized doctors. At Doan Gia, the team of doctors and nurses continuously participate in international conferences in Singapore, Taiwan and soon the US, Korea... to update knowledge, technology and new machines and equipment”, Dr. Phuong Thao shared.
According to Dr. Thao, the most difficult thing for a clinic is to have a team of high-quality doctors to accompany it. “I am lucky to have that. With a team of doctors trained at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City and having postgraduate qualifications, I am completely confident in the quality of service provided to customers,” said Dr. Phuong Thao.
In the development orientation, Dr. Doan Thi Phuong Thao has gradually outlined a clear roadmap for Doan Gia Dental Clinic. In addition to meeting the general infection control requirements of the ADA (American Dental Association), Doan Gia aims to achieve ISO 9001 quality management system certification, providing more care for patients with high-quality services.

Dr. Doan Thi Phuong Thao's entrepreneurial journey began with her will to overcome difficulties, her innate ability, and her tireless efforts in her studies. After more than 12 years, the greatest achievement she has "saved" is the trust of her patients and customers. That trust is an immeasurable value that has helped her become who she is today.
Doing business, if you cannot maintain the character and heart of a doctor, the most precious thing, the trust of everyone, will be broken. Understanding this intangible value, right from the beginning of her business, she always cherished and valued every moment and specific work. Without flashiness or gloss, trust is nurtured from the most real and sincere things that Dr. Phuong Thao gives to her patients - customers.
In addition to constantly improving her medical ethics, Doan Thi Phuong Thao also actively participates in social charity activities, such as giving gifts to poor students and giving gifts to people in difficult circumstances with the locality.
In addition, the 8X female CEO is also very active in participating in dental disease prevention programs for children at charity homes in Binh Tan District (HCMC). At the same time, she consistently implements free training programs for the community on children's dental health care, free dental care programs for the elderly...
Regarding the reason for spending so much time on social charity activities, Dr. Thao confided: “I am fortunate to have the conditions and knowledge to help people in difficult circumstances. Therefore, I am always aware of my responsibility in joining hands to build a humane and civilized society. Participating in social charity activities not only brings good values to the community, but also helps me to mature spiritually, fostering more compassion and faith in life.”
It is not difficult to recognize in Dr. Thao the combination of the dedication of a doctor who loves his job and the acumen of a businessman. But most importantly, after the hardships of her entrepreneurial journey, Dr. Doan Thi Phuong Thao said that she is glad that she still maintains her love for her job and the greatest asset she has is the trust of her customers. This trust, like a piece of paper, once obtained, must be kept smooth at all costs, because trust certainly begins and ends with the truth.
