As someone who has been attached to longan trees for more than 20 years, he Dang Van Ung in Dong Luong village, Hiep Cuong commune, Kim Dong district is one of the pioneer farmers converting ineffective rice land to grow fruit trees locally.
To date, Mr. Ung has over 8 hectares of longan grown according to VietGAP standards, including about 1 hectare of early-ripening longan with high-quality varieties such as T6, super sweet. Thanks to the application of advanced techniques and appropriate care processes for intensive cultivation and spreading the harvest, nearly 100 early longan trees of his family have begun to yield with an estimated yield of 6 tons of fruit, with current selling prices from 50 to 70 thousand VND/kg. Not only successful with early ripening longan, Mr. Ung's main-season longan garden is expected to this year for output over 100 tons.
Currently, he is completing the quality certification dossier, building a brand, traceability stamps and aiming to establish a cooperative to increase the value and expand the market for Hung Yen longan products.
