Noo Phuoc Thinh speaks out after being banned from singing 8 hit songs by musician Do Hieu

Noo affirmed that he always respects all musicians regardless of generation.

Sharing with the press, Noo Phuoc Thinh said he had planned to remain silent, but "the issue has now gone too far, so Noo has to speak up."

Noo Phuoc Thinh affirmed that he did not sing for free nor use Do Hieu's works indiscriminately.

"Up to now, according to the principle, for each show, the organizers must request a license from the Department of Culture and pay copyright for the songs performed in the program through VCPMC - Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection. This center has been authorized by musicians, including Do Hieu, to receive royalties. Do Hieu also confirmed that he received money for the songs that Noo performed from this center. Noo also pays royalties to other musicians through the center for each performance."

The 8x singer said that he bought exclusive rights to each song for 2 years. After the term expires, whether to renew the exclusive rights or sign the copyright or not is an agreement between the musician and the singer. A month ago, Do Hieu discussed with his team about the renewal, specifically through manager Tuan Khanh.

At present, The Remix 2016 Champion shared that he has no intention of continuing to exclusively use these songs. When there is a need, the male singer will discuss with the musician and fully respect the regulations on performance copyright of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection.

In addition, Noo Phuoc Thinh only signed performance rights with digital music companies, the remaining copyrights are signed by the musician himself with these units.

He shared that he understands that the relationship between musicians and singers is symbiotic, so he always respects the musicians who work with him. He understands that the relationship between both sides must have trust and love in order to send products to the audience. Therefore, musicians must also respect singers.

Unable to find common ground

Previously, on his personal page, musician Do Hieu announced that he "banned" Noo Phuoc Thinh from performing and using a total of 8 songs he composed in the past 10 years, including Mai Mai Ben Nhau, Gat Di Nuoc Mat, Hold Me Tonight, Don't Look Back, Coming Together Is Wrong, Cause I Love You, Please Don't Let Go, Like the Beginning Minutes because the two sides could not find a common voice.

Among these, "Gạt đi nước mật" is the biggest hit of Noo Phuoc Thinh's career.

Gạt đi nước mắt was released in December 2014. For nearly 10 years, Noo Phuoc Thinh has performed this hit song many times on stage.

According to musician Do Hieu, Noo Phuoc Thinh has the exclusive right to use Gat di nuoc mat for 2 years, meaning until December 2016. However, after the exclusive period expired, Noo Phuoc Thinh did not renew the contract or renegotiate or agree on copyright fees.

For many years, according to Do Hieu, Noo Phuoc Thinh only contacted to ask for permission to perform for big shows, ignoring many small shows at venues such as bars, clubs, lounges...

Musician Nguyen Van Chung spoke up in support of musician Do Hieu when Noo Phuoc Thinh used 8 of Do Hieu's songs for free for many years.
