People's Artist Le Thuy and singer Duong Dinh Tri were honored with the Dao Tan Award in 2024.
This year's awards honored 18 groups and individuals whose works have made positive contributions to the preservation and promotion of the nation's traditional cultural and artistic values.
In his concluding report at the 2024 Dao Tan Award Ceremony, Mr. Nguyen The Khoa, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture, Head of the Organizing Committee, and Standing Vice Chairman of the Dao Tan Award Council, stated that the 2024 Dao Tan Award began with much confidence as national art is undergoing many optimistic changes.
The organizing committee congratulates the artists and writers who were awarded the Dao Tan Prize in 2024.
“The organizing committee has selected nearly 50 works, authors, and art organizations that meet the two main criteria of the Dao Tan Award to submit to the Dao Tan Award Council for consideration. After a period of review and consultation with highly reputable artists and literary critics, the Award Council unanimously agreed to award 18 prizes, including 11 individual awards for outstanding artists; 5 outstanding plays from 5 professional theater groups; and 2 awards for outstanding semi-professional art troupes from 2 semi-professional traditional theater groups,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen The Khoa, Deputy Director of the Institute for Research, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture, Head of the Organizing Committee, and Standing Vice Chairman of the Dao Tan Award Council.
In the theatrical performance category – the basic category of the Dao Tan Award – five theatrical works from five professional theater groups were awarded the Outstanding Performance Prize, including: the Cheo play "Red Rain" by the Hai Phong Cheo Art Troupe; the Cai Luong play "Debt to the Nation" by the Vietnam Cai Luong Theater; the spoken drama "Cloudy Rain" by Hero Film Company Limited, Ho Chi Minh City; the Cheo play "My Company Commander" by the Army Cheo Theater; and the Cheo play "The Miraculous Sticky Rice" by the Hanoi Cheo Theater.
People's Artist Le Thuy is beloved by audiences in the North.
Two awards for outstanding semi-professional performing arts troupes were presented to the following units: the semi-professional opera troupe of Nhon Hung commune, An Nhon district, Binh Dinh province; and the semi-professional opera troupe of Phu Man village, Cho town, Yen Phong district, Bac Ninh province. In the individual awards category, the organizing committee presented a total of 11 awards to individuals who are artists with outstanding achievements.
People's Artist Le Thuy was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Artistic Creation and Service to the People"; Dr. Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Hai Phong, was awarded the "Outstanding Cultural Manager" Award.
Singer Duong Dinh Tri was honored alongside many other artists at the 2024 Dao Tan Award ceremony.
The authors awarded the Outstanding Work prize include: Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu with the epic poem "The Soldiers of the Village"; Poet Tran Vu Mai with "Selected Poems of Tran Vu Mai"; Poet Do Nam Cao with "Selected Poems of Do Nam Cao"; Sculptor Vuong Duy Bien with the work "Monument of President Ho Chi Minh with the South" on Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang; Sculptor Luu Thanh Lan with a series of three sculptures "Soldiers Defending the Island", "Land", and "Spring Lullaby"; and Musician Hinh Phuoc Lien with the song "Grandmother Returns to the Land of Immortals".
Singer and songwriter Nguyen Duc Chinh was awarded the "Outstanding Singer and Songwriter about Hanoi" award; singer Duong Dinh Tri was awarded the "Outstanding Program Creator" award for the program "Footsteps of Two Generations" (continuously maintained for 15 years, from 2009 to the present); and artisan and master's degree holder Vuong Danh Thuong (Director of the Center for Training in Traditional Singing under the Institute for Research, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture) was awarded the "Outstanding Trainer" award.
People's Artist Le Thuy hopes her son – singer Duong Dinh Tri – will continue to contribute to the arts, living up to the Dao Tan Award.
People's Artist Le Thuy shared: “I have performed in the capital many times, both when I was with the Ho Chi Minh City Performing Arts Troupe and later with Troupe 284. The audience in the capital loves Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) very much. Today, what makes me even happier is that my son, singer Duong Dinh Tri, has followed in his mother's footsteps and received an award for his creative role in the program "Footsteps of Two Generations". This is a great honor for our family, and also a responsibility to strive to contribute more to the arts,” said People's Artist Le Thuy.
Established in 2000, right from the founding of the Institute for Research, Preservation and Promotion of National Culture and the Cultural Heritage Magazine, the Dao Tan Award was created to honor collectives and individuals with outstanding works in theater, literature, painting, and music, who have made positive contributions to the building, protection, exchange, and integration of the country, and to the preservation and promotion of traditional national cultural and artistic values.
Initially, the award was given every two years; since 2005, it has been given annually.
