Famous British actress Prunella Scales dies

British actress Prunella Scales, famous for her role as Sybil Fawlty in the comedy series "Fawlty Towers," has passed away at the age of 93, it was announced on October 28.

Scales died at her London home the day before, her family said. According to her sons, the actress watched the movie "Fawlty Towers" the day before her death.

Prunella Scales was born in Surrey in 1932 and began her acting career at The Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol. Her role as Sybil in the film "Fawlty Towers" won a BAFTA award and left a lasting impression on British audiences.

Sybil is the polar opposite of her arrogant, snobbish and troubled hotelier husband Basil Fawlty, played by actor John Cleese. In 2019, the show was voted the best British comedy series by the Radio Times Television Panel of Experts.

Scales' acting career spanned seven decades, including roles in films dating back to the early 1950s, including the series "Marriage Lines." She also starred in the 1992 Oscar-winning film "Howards End," alongside her son, actor Samuel West. She battled dementia in 2013 but continued to work in the years after.
