Composer Nguyen Dinh Bang was born in 1942 in Dao Ly, Ly Nhan, Ha Nam (now Ninh Binh province). From a young age, he showed a talent for music and soon pursued a professional artistic career. Before becoming a composer, he was a musician in the Central Cheo Troupe, performing for soldiers and civilians on the Truong Son front lines, as well as on many stages both domestically and internationally.

After graduating from the Composition Department of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music, he worked at the Music and Recording Publishing House, serving as a music editor until his retirement.

Although he started composing quite early, it wasn't until 1987 that Nguyen Dinh Bang's name truly became widely known with the song "Sudden Rain," which was loved by a large audience. Since then, he has continuously released many works that have left a lasting impression on listeners, such as " The Time of Red Flowers" (poem by Thanh Tung), "Two Halves of the Moon" (adapted from a poem by Hoang Huu), "Spring Has Arrived," "New Love," "Naked Truong Son," etc. He also published music anthologies such as the albums "The Time of Red Flowers," "Naked Truong Son," and "Selected Songs by Nguyen Dinh Bang" (Music Publishing House, 1995).

Throughout his songwriting career, "The Time of Red Flowers" is one of the most beloved love songs, associated with singers such as People's Artist Thai Bao and People's Artist Duc Long. The poignant melodies, coupled with beautiful, evocative lyrics, create a powerful and memorable melody. The chorus, "Every time the red flowers bloom, they fall like rain...", has become an immortal phrase, evoking beautiful yet poignant love stories, imbued with humanistic and romantic sentiment.

Composer Nguyen Dinh Bang believes that this song has the influence of folk music, but he has transformed and developed it into his own, modernizing it. He also believes that his songs all have folk elements and evoke images of the past, but not a past that has vanished forever, but rather a past that remains relevant to present-day life, allowing listeners to reflect upon it.

People's Artist Thái Bảo performs the song "Thời hoa đỏ" by composer Nguyễn Đình Bảng and poet Thanh Tùng.

Nguyen Dinh Bang won numerous music awards: First and Third Prizes from the Vietnam Musicians Association, 1994: "Naked Truong Son" and "Homeland Love" (poems by Han Mac Tu); Second Prize from the Vietnam Musicians Association, 1995: "Lam River Cruise"; Third Prize for songs and instrumental music from the Vietnam Musicians Association, 1996: "Sea Star" and "Thi Kinh - Thi Mau Symphony Ballade".

He was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts, second round, in 2007, for the collection of works: "The Time of Red Flowers" (poetry by Thanh Tung), "Cruising on the Lam River," "Naked Truong Son," "Starfish," and the symphonic Baleade "Thi Kinh - Thi Mau."
