(NLDO) - In early December, the MV project of reformed opera - ancient play "Huynh Yen Dao Tri Cung" by artist - author Hoang Thanh officially started filming.

This is an artistic publication marking a remarkable event for the current stage of traditional opera. Not only because of the "huge" scale of participating artists, but also because this is a project with artistic advice from artist Bo Bo Hoang - who is honored by experts as "The female monster of the traditional opera stage", an artist who possesses all four rare elements: acting - directing - scriptwriting - costume design.

The collaboration between artist Hoang Thanh - a young, talented and creative actor - and Bo Bo Hoang, a veteran artist who won the Thanh Tam Gold Medal in 1967 - is considered a promising combination, opening up a new approach to traditional opera at a time when both tradition and innovation are needed.

Hoang Thanh: From a singer to the challenge of playing the role of a Mother

This is considered a bold step by the young male artist in the world of traditional opera. He participated in the Young Actor Talent Contest in 2022 and has been involved in and researched the art of singing Mau, singing and dancing in the shadow... For a long time, artist Hoang Thanh participated in performances on the stages of Meritorious Artist Chi Linh, Van Ha and Vu Luan.

He is one of the few male artists who dares to play the role of Mother Goddess - a character with a sacred and authoritative aura, both gentle and powerful, which is extremely rare. Because the role of Mother Goddess not only requires standard acting techniques but also requires spiritual strength, solemn demeanor and emotional maturity to convey the "spirit" of the character.

Hoang Thanh chose to take on that challenge and was doubly challenged as he was both the script writer and the main character himself.

During the preparation process, artist Hoang Thanh spent many months researching the story, religious symbols, the demeanor of each step - gaze - footwork - traditional opera techniques so that the character Mau would not become an illustration, but would become the soul leading the entire MV.

It can be said that with this project, Hoang Thanh shows that he is a singer with solid technique and also has the desire to break through and find his own path in art.

Bo Bo Hoang - professional support

As one of the few artists who composes, directs, acts and makes costumes, Bo Bo Hoang plays a consistent advisory role in shaping the style, technique and spirit of traditional opera for the MV "Huynh Yen Dao Tri Cung".

She guided Hoang Thanh from posture, eyes, concentration, sleeve movements, to stage layout.

More specifically, artist Bo Bo Hoang also directly assisted in adjusting the costumes, colors, patterns and makeup techniques to the true spirit of traditional opera - where every detail carries cultural and symbolic meaning. This advice helped the MV stay on the traditional track but still be creative enough to attract young audiences.
