(CLO) On October 25, Mr. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. asked the US Supreme Court to remove his name from the voting list in Michigan and several other states, as a move to help Republican candidate Donald Trump.
Earlier, lawyers for former independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy filed an emergency request with Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to remove his name from the ballot for the upcoming presidential election on November 5. Mr. Kennedy suspended his campaign in August and endorsed former President Donald Trump.
But Ms. Benson refused Mr. Kennedy's request to withdraw, forcing him to go to state court. The Michigan Supreme Court ruled against him in September.

This is the third time Mr. Kennedy has gone to the Supreme Court to challenge decisions by state officials. On October 23, he also asked the court to remove his name from the Wisconsin ballot. In September, the Supreme Court rejected his request to be reinstated on the ballot in New York.
When Mr. Kennedy suspended his campaign, he pledged to withdraw from the most competitive states but remain on the ballot elsewhere — a strategy meant to drive votes for Donald Trump in the battleground states. He also publicly called on supporters everywhere to back Mr. Trump. He also withdrew from the ballot in several Republican-leaning states.
In a filing on October 25, Mr. Kennedy's lawyer said Ms. Benson's keeping his name on the ballot violated his free speech rights under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
In an effort to remove his name from the Wisconsin voting rolls, Mr. Kennedy asked the judges to issue an order "ordering the Wisconsin Elections Commission to cover his name with a sticker."
