US President Donald Trump said a territorial division agreement between Russia and Ukraine is being drafted, and predicted a ceasefire could happen very soon.
Speaking to reporters at the White House on March 21, President Trump said that land division "contracts" between Russia and Ukraine "are being negotiated as we speak," according to The Hill .
"They're fighting each other. I think we're going to have ceasefires in a lot of areas and so far it's going very well," Mr. Trump said.
Mr. Trump said Ukraine-Russia are about to cease fire, are negotiating to divide the territory
"I believe we will have a comprehensive ceasefire agreement very soon and then we will have a contract, and that contract is being negotiated, the contract on the division of land... It is being negotiated as we speak," the White House owner continued.
Russia controls nearly 20% of Ukraine. In 2022, Russia annexed four Ukrainian regions, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, although it did not fully control them. Ukraine did not recognize the annexation, nor did it recognize the Crimean peninsula in 2014.

The Trump administration is pushing for a limited ceasefire covering energy and other infrastructure. The US had previously proposed a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire. Ukraine agreed but Russia had set several conditions.
In a call on March 19 with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Trump proposed that the US own some of Ukraine's power plants as a form of protection.

The new revelation about the negotiation process was made by President Trump before the US delegation held separate talks with Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia on March 24. Last week, the US and Ukraine met in the city of Jeddah and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio later confirmed that the two sides discussed territorial concessions.
President Zelensky has opposed the possibility of recognizing Russia's annexations in the talks, calling it a red line that Ukraine will not cross.
